  1. 11. Molecular biology of Brouton's tyrosine kinase

    Author : Carl-Magnus Bäckesjö; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : X-linked agammaglobulinemia; XLA; Bruton s tyrosine kinase; Btk; signal transduction; phosphorylation; pleckstrin homology domain; PH; SH2; SH3.;

    Abstract : X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is caused by an arrest in the B lymphocyte differentiation. XLA patients lack mature B-cells and subsequently antibody production. The defective gene causing XLA is the BTK gene, which codes for the protein Bruton s tyrosine kinase (Btk), a cytoplasmic enzyme related to the Src family of kinases. READ MORE

  2. 12. Developmental regulation of smooth muscle contraction in the urinary bladder

    Author : Mari Ekman; Cellulär biomekanik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; newborn; Rho-kinase; cellular signaling; muscarinic receptors; calcium sensitivity; protein kinase C; non-muscle myosin; myosin light chain phosphatase;

    Abstract : Smooth muscle cells in the urinary bladder are involved in the control of urine filling and emptying. We have used mice to study the contractile regulation of urinary bladder smooth muscle during the fetal period. READ MORE

  3. 13. Intracellular components involved in parathyroid sensing of extracellular calcium

    Author : Isaac G. Onyango; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Parathyroid hormone; secretion; Src kinase; ERK; PI 3-kinase; PKC; extracellular calcium; parathyroid cell; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : Parathyroid glands are the primary regulator of extracellular calcium ([Ca2+]e). Ca2+ plays a key role in many fundamental biological processes and is also an essential structural component of the skeleton. The parathyroid chief cells detect small changes in [Ca2+]e and respond by altering the secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH). READ MORE

  4. 14. Collagen-binding integrin α2β1 activity in vivo and in vitro : Effects of platelet-derived growth factor-BB

    Author : Karina Åhlén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Integrin α2β1; PDGF-BB; fibroblast; interstitial fluid pressure; cytoskeletal interaction; phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase; [Ca2 ]i; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : The expression of integrins by two cell clones from a rat colon carcinoma was investigated. Cloned cells that gave rise to regressive tumors, but not cells that gave rise to progressive, lethal, tumors, adhered to interstitial collagens through the integrin α2β1, although both cell types expressed it. 5. 15. Localisation of Protein Kinase C in Apoptosis and Neurite Outgrowth

    Author : Anna Schultz; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; onkologi; cancer; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; Prostate Cancer; Neuroblastoma; Ceramide; Golgi Apparatus; Neurite outgrowth; Apoptosis; Protein Kinase C; C1 domain;

    Abstract : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases, which are subgrouped into classical (a, bI, bII, g), novel (d, e, h, q) and atypical (z, i/l) isoforms. One major aim of this thesis work was to investigate if altered levels of PKC isoforms influence the apoptotic responses of malignant cell-lines. READ MORE
