  1. 16. The FLT3 Tyrosine Kinase in Leukemia : Deciphering the Downstream Signaling Events and Drug-Escape Mechanisms

    Author : Amanda Nordigården; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Mickael Sigvardsson; Alexander Vener; Bengt Hallberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a severe disease, which originates in blood-forming cells. Although major advances in understanding the biology of AML, the majority of patients eventually succumb to the disease. READ MORE

  2. 17. Design and Synthesis of Chalcone and Chromone Derivatives as Novel Anticancer Agents

    Author : Christine Dyrager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chalcones; Chromones; Fluorescence; Fluorophore; Cellular imaging; Anticancer; Tubulin; Microtubule; Kinase inhibitors; p38; MEK1; Palladium-mediated reactions; Molecular modeling; Structure-Activity Relationships.;

    Abstract : This thesis comprises the design and synthesis of chalcone and chromone derivatives and their use in various biological applications, particularly as anticancer agents (targeting proteins associated with cancer pathogenesis) and as potential fluorophores for live-cell imaging. Conveniently, all structures presented were synthesized from commercially available 2 ́-hydroxyacetophenones. READ MORE

  3. 18. Plant Phosphoinositide Kinases. A Study of PtdIns 4-kinases and a PtdIns 4-phosphate 5-kinase

    Author : Tomas Westergren; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; regulation; plant phosphorylation; plasma membrane; lipid kinase; divalent ion; phosphoinositide; substrate specificity; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : Phosphoinositides are of particular interest in signal transduction processes as they can be sequentially phosphorylated and used as precursors for the intracellular messengers inositol trisphosphate (InsP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG) that in turn affects calcium levels and protein kinase cascades, eventually leading to a physiological response. The activity and regulation of PtdIns 4-kinases and PtdInsP kinase was studied. READ MORE

  4. 19. Molecular Mechanism of Growth Hormone - Involvement of Janus Kinase 2, Insulin Receptor Substrate-1 and -2 and Phosphatidylinositol 3-Kinase In the Acute Insulin-Like Effects of Growth Hormone In Primary Rat Adipocytes

    Author : Martin Ridderstråle; Diabetes - klinisk obesitasforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; insulin receptor substrate-1; insulin receptor substrate-2 phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase; signal transducer and activator of transcription 5; janus kinase 2; phosphotyrosine; receptor; phosphorylation; Growth hormone; Metabolism; Biochemistry; rat; adipocyte; lipolysis; lipogenesis; Biokemi; metabolism; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Originally studying the molecular mechanisms for the insulin-like effects of growth hormone (GH), lipogenesis and antilipolysis, in isolated rat adipocytes we found that the GH receptor (GHR) was tyrosine phosphorylated in response to GH in cells that were responsive to these effects. Then, as Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) was described as a GH-stimulated and GHR-associated tyrosine kinase, we found that JAK2 was tyrosine phosphorylated in response to GH in responsive cells. READ MORE

  5. 20. Roles of protein kinase C in cell death and breast cancer

    Author : Louise Cornmark; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; protein kinase C; apoptosis; cell death; Smac; Smac mimetics; IAP; stanniocalcin-1;

    Abstract : Aberrant protein kinase C (PKC) activity and expression is implicated in different malignancies. To study the role of different PKC isoforms in breast cancer the expression of PCKα, δ and ε was evaluated in breast cancer tumors. In addition the effect of siRNA-mediated knockdown of the isoforms was studied in a global gene expression analysis. READ MORE
