  1. 1. Biodegradable Blends and Nanocomposite Films with Amylopectin, Poly(lactic acid) and Chitosan Matrices

    Author : David Nordqvist; Mikael S. Hedenqvist; Mats Stading; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amylopectin; chitosan; microfibrillated cellulose; nanocomposite; montmorillonite; coupling agent; amylopektin; kitosan; mikrofibrillär cellulose; nanokomposit; montmorillonit; kompatibilisator; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Användningan av engångsförpackningar har ökat kraftigt de senaste åren. Den absolut största delen av dessa förpackningar tillverkars av oljebaserade plaster såsom polyetylen (PE) och polypropylen (PP). Dessa har även en oerhört lång nedbrytningstid, vilket gör det viktigt att finna mer miljövänliga alternativ. READ MORE

  2. 2. Morphology and Properties of Polymer Blends -Polypropylene and a Thermoplastic Elastomer -Polypropylene/Polyamide (1/1) and a Modified Thermoplastic Elastomer

    Abstract : The search for polymeric materials with new property profiles has stimulated a great interest into polymer blends and reactive processing. During recent years many new blends have reached the market. READ MORE

  3. 3. Poly(ethylene-graft-ethylene oxide) Preparation and Properties in Polymer Blends

    Author : Åsa Halldén; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface modification; Graft copolymers; Polymer blends; Polyethylene; Polyethylene oxide; Polyamide; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the preparation, characterisation and properties of poly(ethylene-graft-ethylene oxide) (PE-PEO). The grafting reaction was carried out with the grafting onto method using the carboxylic acid groups of poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (PEAA) as reactive sites in an esterification reaction with poly(ethylene oxide) mono-methyl ethers (MPEO) of varying molecular weights: 750, 2000 and 5000. 4. 4. Bio-based barriers from wood hydrolysates : A pilot-scale approach

    Author : Soheil Saadatmand; Ulrica Edlund; Youssef Habibi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood hydrolysate; biorefinery; oxygen permeability; multilayer barriers; food packaging.; vedhydrolysat; syrgaspermeabilitet; barriärskikt; livsmedelsförpackning;

    Abstract : Wood hydrolysates (WHs) are liquids extracted from the hydrothermal treatment of wood. They exist as the byproduct of forestry industries such as the dissolving pulp and fiberboard industries. WHs are hemicellulose-based with a large share of lignin in the chemical composition. 5. 5. Polymer extraction and utilization of brown algal biomass

    Author : Martin Sterner; Ulrica Edlund; Fredrik Gröndahl; Marguerite Rinaudo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Algae; Saccharina latissima; alginate; brown seaweed; extraction; filament; chelation; gel; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Aquaculture is a field with a world changing potential. The areas at sea are enormous and aquatic cultivations impact both the environment and local ecology far less than land based cultivations. In the realm of algae, abundancies exists of nutrition, water and accessible sunlight, but there is constant shortage of places to dwell. READ MORE
