  1. 1. A study of slag-steel-inclusion interaction during Ladle treatment

    Author : Johan Björklund; Pär Jönsson; Voicu Brabie; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ladle treatment; steel; slag; inclusions; ladle; refining; vacuum; tool steel; oxide activity; slag models; oxygen; equilibrium; Metallurgical process and manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk process- och produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : The thesis is based on two supplements with two major objectives. In the first supplement equilibrium top slag-steel bulk and inclusions-steel bulk were investigated by comparison between calculated and measured oxygen activity values. This was done by applying different oxide activity models for slags combined with thermodynamic calculations. READ MORE

  2. 2. A Study of Slag/Metal Equilibrium and Inclusion Characteristics during Ladle Treatment and after Ingot Casting

    Author : Hamid Doostmohammadi; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; inclusions; thermodynamics; ladle treatment; vacuum; tool steel; bearing steel; slag; equilibrium; slag carryover; oxides; sulfides.; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : Today, there is a high demand on clean steel for high performance materialproperties. Thus, steel producers try to deliver a steel product with the highestquality and cleanliness to the market. The number of parameters that affect thesteel cleanliness may vary depending on the required material properties of thefinal product. READ MORE

  3. 3. Thermodynamic Aspects on Inclusion Composition and Oxygen Activity during Ladle Treatment

    Author : Johan Björklund; Pär Jönsson; Margareta Andersson; Leiv Kolbeinsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ladle treatment; thermodynamics; inclusions; steel; slag; equilibrium; ladle treatment; vacuum; oxide activity; oxygen activity.; Metallurgical process and manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk process- och produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Two industrial studies and one set of lab scale trials have been done. In addition, a theoretical study has been done. The main focus has been on non metallic inclusion composition during the ladle refining operation in industrial steel production. Sampling has been done together with careful inclusion determination. 4. 4. The Effect of Ladle Treatment on Steel Cleanness in Tool Steels

    Author : Karin Steneholm; Pär Jönsson; Guozhu Ye; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oxygen activity; inclusion characteristics; vacuum degassing; desulphurization; slag; ladle; hydrogen; nitrogen; deslagging; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : The aim of the present work was to get an overview of the steel cleanness in tool steel. Plant trial studies of three steel grades were done with different focuses.Firstly the change of the inclusion characteristics during the vacuum degassing in the ladle was looked upon. READ MORE

  5. 5. Slag, Steel, Ladle and Non-metallic Inclusions Equilibria in an ASEA-SKF Ladle Furnace

    Author : Kamrooz Riyahimalayeri; Malin Selleby; Johan Björkvall; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Clean steel; Top slag; Non-Metallic Inclusions; Oxides; Vacuum Degassing; Deoxidation; Desulphurization; Equilibrium; Computational Thermodynamics; Scanning electron microscopy;

    Abstract : This study explores the possibility of prediction and modification of some of the physicochemical properties of non-metallic inclusions by considering top slag-steel-ladle equilibria in an ASEA-SKF ladle furnace. To test the reliability of an available computational thermodynamic computer program, the first sub project was done. READ MORE
