1. InP-based photonic crystals : Processing, Material properties and Dispersion effects
Abstract : Photonic crystals (PhCs) are periodic dielectric structures that exhibit a photonic bandgap, i.e., a range of wavelength for which light propagation is forbidden. The special band structure related dispersion properties offer a realm of novel functionalities and interesting physical phenomena. READ MORE

2. Study on electroabsorption modulators and grating couplers for optical interconnects
Abstract : Decades of efforts have pushed the replacement of electrical interconnects by optical links to the interconnects between computers, racks and circuit boards. It may be expected that optical solutions will further be used for inter-chip and intra-chip interconnects with potential benefits in bandwidth, capacity, delay, power consumption and crosstalk. 3. A fixed-lag smoother for solving joint input and state estimation problems in structural dynamics
Abstract : In this thesis we have investigated different numerical filters for joint input and state estimation, with the aim of designing a robust algorithm capable of monitoring the continuous motion and loading in a truck chassis. The algorithm has to be able to use sparse measurements of the motion on different parts of the truck as it is excited by road induced vibrations, and transform this data into knowledge of the state in the entire system. 4. Bacterial and fungal growth in soil: The effect of temperature and substrate addition
Abstract : Bacteria and fungi are the main agents in decomposition of soil organic matter. Their activity is determined by the availability and quality of substrate, especially its content of carbon, but also nitrogen and phosphorus. Other environmental factors, which affect the activity of the microbial community in soil, are temperature, moisture and pH. READ MORE

5. Effect of local food on lumefantrine bioavailability and population pharmacokinetics in Ugandan children with malaria
Abstract : Background. Artemether-lumefantrine (AL) is widely adopted as first-line treatment for uncomplicated malaria. Lumefantrine (LUM), the long acting partner drug is critical for cure by eliminating malaria parasites left after artemether exposure. READ MORE
