  1. 1. Co-injection of basic fluxes or BF flue dust with PC into a BF charged with 100% pellets : effects on slag formation and coal combustion

    Author : Lena Sundqvist Ökvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : Based on 100% pellets operation at BF No. 3 at SSAB Tunnplåt in Luleå a new pellet with CaO/SiO2=1 was developed during early nineties. The pellet showed good results in metallurgical laboratory test but caused slag formation problems in the bosh. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optimisation of the slag formation in a blast furnace charged with 100% pellets

    Author : Lena Sundqvist Ökvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : This work is based on experiences from industrial blast furnaces. Process irregularities when testing self-fluxed pellets Process disturbances when charging increased proportions of coarse pellets Laboratory tests to evaluate the effect of basic fluxes on the slag formation in the bosh and in the raceway have been carried out. 3. 3. Recycling of Blast Furnace Sludge within the Integrated Steel Plant : Potential for Complete Recycling and Influence on Operation

    Author : Anton Andersson; Lena Sundqvist Ökvist; Hesham Ahmed; Caisa Samuelsson; Yongxiang Yang; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : Ore-based steelmaking generates various residues including dust, sludges, scales and slags. Internal and external recycling has allowed for 68-90 % of the dust, sludges and scales to be recycled. However, several residues are landfilled despite containing elements valuable as raw material in the production of steel. READ MORE

  4. 4. Bio-coal as an alternative reducing agent in the blast furnace

    Author : Asmaa El-Tawil; Lena Sundqvist Öqvist; Bo Björkman; Henrik Saxen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Devolatilization; torrefied biomass; bio-coal; volatile matter; reduction; blast furnace; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : The steel industry is aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by different means; in the short-term, by replacing fossil coal with highly reactive carbonaceous material like bio-coal (pretreated biomass) and, in the longer term, by using hydrogen. The use of bio-coal as part of top charged briquettes also containing iron oxide has the potential to lower the thermal reserve zone temperature of the Blast furnace (BF) and, due to improved gas efficiency, thereby give a high replacement ratio to coke. 5. 5. Influence of the properties of bio-coal as a substitute for fossil coal in carbon composite agglomerates and in coke

    Author : Asmaa El-Tawil; Lena Sundqvist Ökvist; Bo Björkman; Timo Fabritius; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bio-coal; devolatilization; bio-agglomerates; bio-coke; Centrumbildning - Centrum för avancerad gruvteknik och metallurgi CAMM ; Centre - Centre for Advanced Mining Metallurgy CAMM ; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : The iron-ore-based blast furnace (BF) process is still the most dominant method for producing metallic iron units for steelmaking, and the BF is also the main contributor to the 7-9% of global CO2 emissions which, according to World Steel Association, originate from the steel industry.  The steel industry is aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by different means.
