    Abstract : The clinical course of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is highly heterogeneous, which has prompted the search for biomarkers that can predict prognosis in this disease. The IGHV gene mutation status and certain genomic aberrations have been identified as reliable prognostic markers of clinical outcome for this disorder. READ MORE

    Abstract : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a heterogeneous malignancy displaying varying clinical outcome, where molecular markers today can divide patients into prognostic subgroups. Despite the introduction of new agents for treatment, remissions are usually not sustained in CLL and resistance towards treatment can partly be explained by aberrant apoptosis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia : Studies from genetics to epidemiology with focus on the impact of different treatments

    Author : Mattias Mattsson; Richard Rosenquist; Clemens Wendtner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; genetics; epidemiology; Klinisk genetik; Clinical Genetics; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Abstract : The progress in our understanding of the biology and pathophysiology of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), as well as the development of new treatments, necessitates additional research on; (i) the impact of different therapies within subgroups of CLL patients, (ii) solid epidemiological data on the prevalence of CLL and on comorbidities within the CLL population, and (iii) new means of prognostication, as the value of traditional prognostic markers is uncertain when applied to new treatments.In paper I we studied the efficacy of chemo(immuno)therapy in stereotyped subsets #1 and #2. 4. 4. Immunoglobulin Gene Analysis in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia : Characterization of New Prognostic and Biological Subsets

    Author : Gerard Tobin; Richard Rosenquist; Christer Sundström; Anna Laurell; Nicholas Chiorazzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; chronic lymphocytic leukemia; immunoglobulin genes; VH3-21; CDR3; P2X7; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Recent studies have shown that the somatic mutation status of the immunoglobulin (Ig) VH genes can divide chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) into two prognostic subsets, since cases with mutated VH genes display superior survival compared to unmutated cases. Biased VH gene usage has also been reported in CLL which may reflect antigen selection. READ MORE

  5. 5. Trisomies in Hematologic Malignancies

    Author : Kajsa Paulsson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []

    Abstract : Acquired clonal chromosome aberrations, closely associated with leukemogenesis, are found in many hematologic malignancies. Although the balanced rearrangements, such as translocations and inversions, are the ones most commonly thought of in the context of leukemias, gains of chromosomes ? e.g.. READ MORE
