  1. 1. Endothelial-leukocyte interactions

    Author : Maria Olofsson; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Histology; endothelial cell; leukocyte; apoptosis; mitochondria; heparin binding protein; vascular permeability; E-selectin; migration; rolling; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Abstract : This thesis describes early inflammatory responses involving interactions between leukocytes and the endothelial lining of the blood vessel wall. An adhesion molecule, E-selectin, which is upregulated on interleukin-1 activated endothelium, was found to mediate rolling between leukocytes and endothelial cells in vivo. READ MORE

  2. 2. Role of adhesion molecules and chemokines in TNF-alpha-induced leukocyte recruitment

    Author : Xiao Wei Zhang; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; intravital microscopy; microcirculation; inflammation; adhesion; leukocyte; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : Migration of leukocytes from the circulating blood into the extravascular tissue is a key component in inflammatory reactions. Leukocyte extravasation (rolling-activation-adhesion-transmigration) is strictly coordinated by adhesion molecules and chemokines expressed on cell surfaces and in tissues. READ MORE

  3. 3. Leukocyte rolling and firm adhesion in the microvasculature : functional significance for leukocyte recruitment in inflammation

    Author : Xun Xie; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : adhesion molecules; blood flow; chemoattractants; endothelium; flowcytometry; fucoidin; heparin; inflammation; integrins; intravital microscopy; leukocyteadhesion; leukocyte extravasation; leukocyte rolling; meningitis; mesentery; microcirculation; ;

    Abstract : Leukocyte recruitment to tissues is a key component in the inflammatory process. In order for circulating leukocytes to extravasate, they need to interact with vascular endothelium in several sequential steps. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanisms for leukocyte-mediated adjustment of endothelial barrier function

    Author : Narinder Gautam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Inflammation; leukocyte extravasation; endothelial cells; vascular permeability; plasma leakage integrin signaling; heparin binding protein; contact phase; bradykinin.;

    Abstract : Extravasation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) and associated plasma exsudation are key events in the inflammatory process. The mechanism by which activated PMN may induce increased vascular permeability for macromolecules is not fully understood but crucially dependent on an intact leukocytic beta2 integrin (CD11/CD18) adhesion receptor function. 5. 5. Leukocyte recruitment and control of vascular permeability in acute inflammation

    Author : Ellinor Kenne; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The inflammatory process is fundamental in host defense against tissue injury or infection. However, the inflammatory reaction may itself cause harm to the host and contribute to tissue damage and organ dysfunction. Leukocyte recruitment and edema formation are key components of the inflammatory response. READ MORE
