  1. 1. EMBRYONIC GLIA AND FOREBRAIN NEUROGENESIS; in vitro generation and differentiation of telencephalic neurons

    Author : Charlotta Skogh; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; beta tubulin III; GFAP; RC2; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurofysiologi; DARPP-32; retinoic acid; serum; EGF; co-culture; cell culture; striatum; LGE; progenitor; precursor; radial glia; region specific; development; CNS; mouse; human; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi;

    Abstract : The current thesis is aimed to increase our understanding of the generation and differentiation of telencephalic neurons, with emphasis on the role of glial cells in these processes. Using in vitro methods we have studied the role of glial cells in neurogenesis, inheritance of genetic regional specification, and influence on differentiation of neurons. READ MORE

  2. 2. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation

    Author : Cecilia Eriksson Linsmeier; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gtv-a; RCAS A -EGFP; transplantation; cell detection; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; GFP-actin; glial differentiation; neuronal differentiation; neurospheres; glial cultures; bFGF; EGF; cell expansion; cortical primordium; MGE; LGE; CNS; stem- progenitor cells;

    Abstract : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 3. 3. Immunological mechanisms in atopic dermatitis : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Maria Tengvall Linder; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : atopic dermatitis; Cyclosporin A; cytokines; eosinophils; lgE; lgE receptors; Pityrosporum orbiculare; patch test; skin biopsy specimens; T cells;

    Abstract : The aim of the study was to investigate immunological mechanisms in atopic dermatitis. Serum IgE levels are elevated in 80% of atopic dermatitis patients and CD4+ T cells and environmental allergens are known to be of importance in the pathogenesis of the disease. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electrocardiographic characterization of myocardial scar in presence of conduction abnormality

    Author : Björn Wieslander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Presence, extent and localization of myocardial scar constitute prognostic clinical information that can influence therapeutical decisions. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging with late gadolinium enhancement (CMR-LGE) is the preferred method to image myocardial scar in vivo but is resource intensive and has contraindications. 5. 5. Cytokine profiles, infections and IgE sensitisation in childhood

    Author : Caroline Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Allergy; allergic heredity; childhood; cytokines; IgE-sensitisation; Epstein-Barr virus; interleukin-12; viral infections.;

    Abstract : Background: The etiologic factors behind development of lgE-mediated allergy are incompletely understood although the interaction between allergic heredity and exposure to various environmental factors seems to be most important. Objective: The overall aim of this thesis was to study the associations between allergic heredity, environmental factors like viral infections and lgE sensitisation and the development of allergic diseases during childhood.
