1. The G-protein coupled receptor CMKLR1/ChemR23: Studies on gene regulation, receptor ligand activation, and HIV/SIV co-receptor function
Abstract : In all higher organisms, there is a need for intercellular communication. G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), located on the cell surface, play an important role in this communication. Cells synthesize and release signalling molecules (ligands), which produce a specific response only in those cells that have a receptor for that ligand. READ MORE

2. Determinants of ligand-induced nuclear receptor activation
Abstract : The nuclear receptors (NRs) constitute a highly conserved superfamily of transcription factors restricted to metazoans. In general, these receptors are regulated by small lipophilic molecules such as steroids, thyroid hormones and retinoids and play an important role in cellular regulation. READ MORE

3. Metallacyclic Phosphine Complexes and Intramolecular Csp3-H Bond Activation -Synthesis, Characterisation and Catalytic Application
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with metallacyclic late transition metal complexes, obtained by intramolecular Csp3-H activation, and the application of such compounds in catalysis. The new hemilabile P,O phosphines N-methyl-N-propionyl-2-(diphenylphosphino)benzylamine (DPPAM), o-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid ethyl ester (DPPES), o-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid methyl ether (DPPET) and ±-1-(2- diphenylphosphino)phenylethyl propionate (±-DPPMES) and the symmetrical diphosphorus donor ligands cis-1,3-bis[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]-cyclohexane (DPCY), cis-1,3-bis[(di-tertbutylphosphino)methyl]cyclohexane (DTBCY) and cis-1,3-bis[(di-isopropylphosphino)methyl]cyclohexane (DIPCY) have been synthesised, allowing the preparation of a range of new metallacyclic rhodium(III), iridium(III) and palladium(II) complexes. 4. Molecular simulations of G protein-coupled receptors : A journey into structure-based ligand design and receptor function
Abstract : The superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) contains a large number of important drug targets. These cell surface receptors recognize extracellular signaling molecules, which stimulates intracellular pathways that play major roles in human physiology. READ MORE

5. Coordination chemistry of late transition metals with PCP ligands. Synthesis, catalysis and mechanism
Abstract : Abstract The work presented in this thesis discusses synthesis of PCP-complexes and utilisations of such organometallic compounds in catalysis. The complexes, obtained by intramolecular Csp3-H activation, are based on the metals palladium, platinum and iridium. READ MORE
