  1. 1. Blue light induced retinal damage

    Author : Jiangmei Wu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Visual perception results from a response to radiation between 400 and 760 mu reaching the retina. Photoreceptor cells are differentiated post-mitotic retinal neurons uniquely adapted for the efficient capture of photons and for the initiation of visual transduction. READ MORE

  2. 2. Inhibition of light-induced colour reversion of wood-containing papers by means of coating

    Author : Helena Fjellström; Hans Höglund; Magnus Paulsson; Arthur Ragauskas; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High-yield pulp; CTMP; birch; light-induced; ageing; photo-stabilising; lignin; coating; pigment; kaolin; calcium carbonate; titanium dioxide; binder; FWA; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The main purpose of this thesis was to find ways to maintain a low level of light‐induceddiscolouration at an increased addition of mechanical and chemimechanical pulps in coated highqualityfine paper and magazine paper grades. Current technology allows the production of highyieldpulps such as thermomechanical and chemimechanical pulps with properties suitable formanufacturing high‐quality paper or paperboard with a low basis weight. 3. 3. Fingerprints of light-induced molecular transients : from quantum chemical models of ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy

    Author : Jesper Norell; Michael Odelius; Sang-Kil Son; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; time-resolved x-ray spectroscopy; quantum chemistry; electronic structure; multi-configurational self-consistent field; density functional theory; molecular dynamics; Born-Oppenheimer dynamics; non-adiabatic dynamics; proton-transfer; charge-transfer; solvatization; Dyson orbital; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Absorption of sunlight generates renewable electricity and powers the growth of plants, but also causes severe damage both to synthetic materials and biological tissue. The wildly varying outcomes of these light-induced processes are ultimately determined by much slighter differences in their underlying reaction pathways, induced by the transient properties of short-lived and miniscule molecules; a powerful approach to their detection and characterization is offered by ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy, with identification of spectral fingerprints and further guidance from quantum chemical models.
