1. Remote Sensing and GIS : Applications for Groundwater Potential Assessment in Eritrea
Abstract : An integrated approach with remote sensing, GeographicInformation Systems (GIS) and more traditional fieldworktechniques was adopted to assess the groundwater potential inthe central highlands of Eritrea. Digitally enhanced colorcomposites and panchromatic images of Landsat TM and Spot wereinterpreted to produce thematic maps such as lithology andlineaments. READ MORE

2. Groundwater resources in hard rock coastal terrains : Insights into heterogeneity and spatial variability
Abstract : Challenges regarding water security in hard rock coastal regions with limited soil cover are: a seasonal absence of recharge during times of peak residency, heterogeneity and variability of the fracture network, close proximity to saline water sources and spatially inconsistent storage and extraction. In areas where it is not feasible to connect residents to municipal water systems, a better understanding of the resilience of reservoirs is needed. READ MORE

3. Groundwater Vulnerability Assessment to pollution in Different Soil and Rock Materials
Abstract : The augmentation of human population regularly corresponds with change in the land cover, including expansion of urban areas, which imposes increasing the available amount of domestic and drinking water. The study area, Halabja-Saidsadiq Basin, is situated in the Northeast of Iraq and is one of the major groundwater sources of the region. READ MORE

4. Dynamic Source Models of Icelandic Earthquakes and Teleseismic Tomograhy along the TOR array
Abstract : This thesis describes new inversion-oriented methodological developments and their seismological applications. In the first study presented the dynamic source parameters of some local Icelandic earthquakes are studied by employing a time domain moment tensor inversion method. READ MORE

5. Terrain Modelling with GIS for Tectonic Geomorphology : Numerical Methods and Applications
Abstract : Analysis of digital elevation models (DEMs) by means of geomorphometry provides means of recognising fractures and characterising the morphotectonics of an area in a quantitative way. The objective of the thesis is to develop numerical methods and a consistent GIS methodology for tectonic geomorphology and apply it to test sites. READ MORE
