  1. 1. NMR diffusion studies on lyotropic liquid crystalline systems

    Author : Greger Orädd; Frank Volke; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diffusion; pulsed field gradient; liquid crystalline systems; lipid lateral diffusion; cubic phases; peptide-lipid interactions; hydrophobic mismatch; permeability;

    Abstract : The pulsed field gradient fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-FTNMR) method to measure translational diffusion coefficients in multicomponent systems has been applied to amphiphilic molecules forming liquid crystalline phases.By analyzing the concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficients of water and amphiphile in a micellar system of N,N-dimethyldodecy lamine oxide (DDAO) in water it was possible to conclude that the micelles formed were polydisperse in size and shape. 2. 2. FACING THE CHALLENGE OF SKIN PENETRATION - A STUDY ON LIPIDIC LIQUID CRYSTALLINE PHASES FOR DERMAL DRUG DELIVERY

    Author : Hanne Evenbratt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 5-diol; liquid crystalline phases; N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone; pentane-1; glyceryl monooleat; propylene glycol; dermal drug delivery; glyceryl monooleyl ether; cubic phase; reversed hexagonal phase;

    Abstract : The skin is a barrier which protects us against daily attacks of foreign substances. From a pharmaceutical perspective it is also an interesting delivery route with its large surface and possibility to reach the blood stream circumventing first passage metabolism. With the varied size, structure etc. READ MORE

  3. 3. Liquid Crystalline SIloxane Dimers - Advanced Materials with Enhanced Properties

    Author : Nils Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 45 degree tilt angle; dimer; antiferroelectric; fluorinated; siloxane; polymer; liquid crystal; macrocycle; ferroelectric;

    Abstract : The liquid crystal state is a complex state with many kinds of different molecular attractive and repulsive forces that results in various kinds of phases. Since the pioneering works by Vorländer in the early 20th century, liquid crystal research has to a great extent been depending on careful systematic studies of the structure/property relationships in series of similar liquid crystalline materials. 4. 4. Lipid-based liquid crystals as drug delivery vehicles for antimicrobial peptides

    Author : Lukas Boge; Martin Andersson; Lovisa Ringstad; RISE; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Liquid crystals; liquid crystalline nanoparticles; cubosome; hexosome; phase behavior; antimicrobial peptide; AMP; glycerol monooleate; proteolysis; antimicrobial effect; antimicrobial resistance; bacterial membrane; membrane interaction; infection; topical delivery; pulmonary delivery;

    Abstract : The development of antimicrobial resistance is a great challenge within health sectors worldwide. Thus, demand for new, efficient treatments is urgent in order to treat various bacterial infections. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a group of antibiotics that have gained more and more attraction in the past decade. READ MORE

  5. 5. Alkylglucosides - physical chemical properties

    Author : Frederik Nilsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; penetration experiment; DSC; SAXS; NMR self-diffusion; phase separation; size micro-structure; aggregate-aggregate interaction; liquid crystalline phases; micelles; alkylglucosides; phase diagrams; fluorescence.; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this study is to characterise the physical-chemical properties of alkylglucosides. Alkylglucosides are non-ionic surfactants synthesized from glucose and a fatty alcohol. The glucose molecule constitutes the hydrophilic head group and the fatty alcohol constitutes the hydrophobic tail. READ MORE
