  1. 1. On the role of mast cells in chemokine-induced leukocyte recruitment

    Author : Yusheng Wang; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chemokines; mast cells; TNF-alpha; dexamethasone; P-selectin; E-selectin; activation; Medicine human and vertebrates ; endothelial cells; adhesion; Neutrophil; Medicin människa och djur ; recruitment;

    Abstract : Leukocyte recruitment is considered to playa key role in numerous inflammatory diseases. Tissue accumulation of Jeukocytes is a multi-steps process comprising rolling, adhesion and transmigration. READ MORE

  2. 2. Regulation and role of IL-7 production in HIV-1 infection

    Author : Hong Thang Pham; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The concentration of interleukin-7 (IL-7) in human serum is elevated in various clinical conditions associated with lymphopenia, including HIV-1 infection. IL-7 is an essential factor for T cell differentiation and survival, and it was suggested that high serum IL-7 concentration may represent a homeostatic response to T cell depletion, which may promote T cell regeneration. 3. 3. Malaria, B lymphocytes and Epstein-Barr virus : emerging concepts on Burkitt's lymphoma pathogenesis

    Author : Daria Donati; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; B lymphocytes; polyclonal activation; hypergammaglobulenemia; EpsteinBarr virus; endemic Burkitt s lymphoma.;

    Abstract : Plasmodium falciparum and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections are recognized co-factors in the genesis of endemic Burkitt's Lymphoma (eBL), the most common paediatric cancer in equatorial Africa. This thesis work examines and discusses interactions between Pfalciparum and EBV that could promote the emergence of eBL. READ MORE

  4. 4. Defining human adaptive immune gene diversity

    Author : Sanjana Narang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The lymphocytes (B and T cells) of the adaptive immune system undergo variable (V), diversity (D), and junctional (J) gene recombination, resulting in highly diverse antigen receptor repertoires capable of recognizing a wide variety of invading pathogens. The B cell receptor (BCR) contains two identical heavy and light chains. READ MORE

  5. 5. Targets for immune mediated killing of tumor cells and T cell functions in B-CLL

    Author : Eva D Rossmann; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; apoptosis; monoclonal antibody therapy; quantitative flow cytometry; cytokines; T cell dysfunctions;

    Abstract : There is a great need for developing and improving treatment alternatives in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL). New therapeutical approaches based on the manipulation of the immune system enable establishment of enhanced control over the malignant clone. READ MORE
