  1. 1. Uncovering Magnetic Order in Nanostructured Disordered Materials : A Study of Amorphous Magnetic Layered Structures

    Author : Panagiotis Korelis; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Gabriella Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amorphous Materials; Magnetism; Amorphous Magnetism; Magnetic Measurements; Thin Films; Multilayers; Thin Film Deposition; Sputtering; FeZr Alloys; AlZr Alloys; X-ray Diffraction; Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The scope of this thesis is the study of the interplay between structure and magnetism in amorphous materials. The investigations focus on the growth of amorphous layers and the study of the influence of structural disorder and reduced physical extension on the magnetic properties of thin films and multilayers. 2. 2. Interacting Magnetic Nanosystems : An Experimental Study Of Superspin Glasses

    Author : Mikael Svante Andersson; Roland Mathieu; Dino Fiorani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin glass; SQUID magnetometry; maghemite; magnetism; nanoparticles;

    Abstract : This thesis presents experimental results on strongly interacting γ-Fe2O3 magnetic nanoparticles and their collective properties. The main findings are that very dense randomly packed (≈60%) γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles form a replica of a spin glass. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Influence of Interlayer Exchange Coupling on Magnetic Ordering in Fe-based Heterostructures

    Author : Martin Pärnaste; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Bryan Hickey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; magnetism; magnetic dimensionality; MOKE; magneto-optics; hydrogen loading; phase transitions; Fysik;

    Abstract : Temperature dependent magnetization measurements were conducted on Fe-based heterostructures. A linear increase of the magnetic critical temperature with increasing Fe thickness was found for Fe/V superlattices with strong interlayer exchange coupling. READ MORE

  4. 4. Collective properties of magnetic mesospins

    Author : Erik Östman; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Vassilios Kapaklis; Nicolas Rougemaille; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; artificial spin ice; magnetic nano-structures; mesoscopic spin systems; mesospins; mixed spin dimensionalities; interaction modifier; engineering of energy landscape; emergence;

    Abstract : Mesoscopic spin systems consist of an ensemble of lithographically patterned nanomagnetic elements - mesospins. The interactions between the mesospins, can be designed at will by altering their lateral arrangement, enabling the study of collective magnetic order in a wide range of systems. READ MORE

  5. 5. Multidimensional magnetic resonance imaging : new methods for analysis of cardiovascular dynamics

    Author : Lars Wigström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular flow and motion occur in three-dimensional (3D) space and vary dynamically over the cardiac cycle. The description of these complicated patterns using non-invasive imaging requires new tools for data acquisition, processing and visualization. READ MORE
