  1. 1. Magnetic Refrigeration for Near Room-Temperature Applications

    Author : Behzad A Monfared; Björn Palm; Joachim Claesson; Andrew Rowe; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic Refrigeration; Magnetic; Cooling; Magnetocaloric; Life Cycle Assessment; Modeling; Simulation; Optimization; Regeneration; Active Magnetic Regeneration; Bonded Regenerator; Heat Switch; Thermal Diode; Peltier; Solid-State; Prototype; Magnetisk Kylteknik; Magnetisk; Kylning; Magnetokalorisk; Livscykela-nalys; Modellering; Simulering; Optimering; Regenerering; Aktiv Mag-netisk Regenerering; Bunden Regenerator; Värmebrytare; Termodiod; Peltier; Solid-State; Prototyp; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Refrigeration plays a crucial role in many different sectors and consumes about 17% of the electricity produced globally. This significant energy consumption implies large share of refrigeration in primary energy consumption and other environmental impacts. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cardiovascular fluid dynamics : methods for flow and pressure field analysis from magnetic resonance imaging

    Author : Tino Ebbers; Håkan Arheden; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular blood flow is highly complex and incompletely understood. Blood flow patterns are expected to influence the opening and closing of normal and prosthetic heart valves, the efficiency of cardiac filling and ejection, and the resistance to thrombus formation within the heart. 3. 3. Fluid dynamic principles for analysis of intracranial pressure control : application towards space medicine and hydrocephalus

    Author : Petter Holmlund; Anders Eklund; Sara Qvarlander; Jan Malm; Marek Czosnyka; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intracranial pressure; posture; cerebrospinal fluid; microgravity; venous collapse; internal jugular vein; fluid dynamics; venous pressure; spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome; hydrocephalus; mathematical modeling; ultrasound; magnetic resonance imaging;

    Abstract : Intracranial pressure (ICP) is an important component of the fluid dynamic environment of the brain and plays a central role with regards to the maintenance of normal cerebral blood flow and neuronal function. However, many regulatory mechanisms controlling the ICP are still poorly understood. READ MORE

  4. 4. Extending MRI to the Quantification of Turbulence Intensity

    Author : Petter Dyverfeldt; Tino Ebbers; Krishna Nayak; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbulence intensity; cardiovascular disease; blood flow; hemodynamics; magnetic resonance imaging; generalized phase-contrast MRI; turbulent flow; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : In cardiovascular medicine, the assessment of blood flow is fundamental to the understanding and detection of disease. Many pharmaceutical, interventional, and surgical treatments impact the flow. The primary purpose of the cardiovascular system is to drive, control and maintain blood flow to all parts of the body. 5. 5. Magnetic Reconnection in Space Plasmas : Cluster Spacecraft Observations

    Author : Alessandro Retinò; Mats André; Andris Vaivads; Bengt U. Ö. Sonnerup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Space and plasma physics; space physics; plasma astrophysics; plasma physics; transport processes; boundary layers; magnetic reconnection; turbulence; particle acceleration; solar system; magnetospheres; Rymd- och plasmafysik;

    Abstract : Magnetic reconnection is a universal process occurring at boundaries between magnetized plasmas, where changes in the topology of the magnetic field lead to the transport of charged particles across the boundaries and to the conversion of electromagnetic energy into kinetic and thermal energy of the particles. Reconnection occurs in laboratory plasmas, in solar system plasmas and it is considered to play a key role in many other space environments such as magnetized stars and accretion disks around stars and planets under formation.
