  1. 6. Chronic myeloid leukemia and cancer

    Author : Niklas Gunnarsson; Anders Själander; Martin Höglund; Bertil Lindahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic myeloid leukemia; Prevalence; Malignancies; Odds ratio; Standardized Incidence Ratio; Outcome; Autoimmune diseases; Survival; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Background Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a relatively rare hematological malignancy with a constant incidence of approximately 90 new cases each year in Sweden (0.9 cases/100 000 inhabitants). The etiology is largely unknown but high doses of ionizing radiation are a known but rare risk factor. READ MORE

  2. 7. Liver cirrhosis-epidemiological and Clinical Aspects

    Author : Steingerður Anna Gunnarsdóttir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Liver cirrhosis; etiology; alcoholic liver disease; mortality; portal hypertension; esophageal varices; variceal bleeding; hepatitis C; hepatocellular cancer; malignancies; small intestinal motility; small intestinal bacterial overgrowth;

    Abstract : Liver cirrhosis is the end-stage of many different chronic liver diseases. Limited data exists on the epidemiology, natural history and complications of liver cirrhosis such as esophageal varices and malignancies in the Nordic countries after the discovery of hepatitis C (HCV). 3. 8. Molecular genetics of lymphoid malignancies

    Author : Mats Merup; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Advances in molecular genetics during the last decade has made it possible to identify genetic lesions in malignant cells that are specific for disease entities with a common clinical presentation and prognosis. In chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) deletions in 13ql4 are the most frequently occurring abnormalities and deletions cluster around marker D13S319 suggesting that a tumor suppressor gene is located in this region. 4. 9. Low-level HIV viremia during antiretroviral therapy

    Author : Olof Elvstam; Klinisk infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human immunodeficiency virus; Viral load; Antiretroviral therapy; Mortality; Malignancies; Cardiovascular disease;

    Abstract : In most cases, antiretroviral therapy (ART) results in undetectable plasma HIV viral load (VL). Still, up to 25% of ART recipients may have detectable low-level viremia (LLV) of different amplitude and persistence. This thesis explores the impact of LLV during ART on virologic and clinical outcomes. READ MORE

  5. 10. Clinical and Epidemiological Studies on Giant Cell Arteritis

    Author : Pavlos Stamatis; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epidemiology; Vasculitis; Risk Factor; Outcomes; Giant cell arteritis; Infection; cancer registries; Malignancies; Myocardial infarction; Incidence; Prevalence; Seasonal variability;

    Abstract : Objectives: The aim of the research summarized in this thesis was to present a comprehensive view of the epidemiology of biopsy-confirmed GCA, investigate infection as a possible risk factor of GCA, and to assess the association of GCA with cancer and myocardial infarction.Methods: To establish incidence and prevalence, patients diagnosed with biopsy-confirmed GCA in Skåne, Sweden 1997–2019 were identified through the database of the pathology department of Region Skåne which serves the entire region.
