1. Determination of mercury chemical speciation in the presence of low molecular mass thiols and its importance for mercury methylation
Abstract : Methylmercury (MeHg) is a neurotoxic compound that threatens the well-being of humans and wildlife. It is formed through the methylation of inorganic mercury (HgII) under suboxic/anoxic conditions in soils, sediment and waters. READ MORE

2. Method Development in Quantitative and Structural Proteomics using Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry
Abstract : In this thesis, methods for studying different aspects of proteomics were developed with Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance, (FTICR), mass spectrometry. The FTICR technique provides ultra-high mass resolving power, mass accuracy at sub ppm level and sensitivity in the attomole region. READ MORE

3. Capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry applied to structural proteomics and small molecule analysis
Abstract : Capillary electrophoresis with mass spectrometric (CE–MS) detection offers a separation method without equal in terms of flexibility, utility, and cost efficiency. Here we demonstrate precisely this through the application of several laboratory-built CE–MS instruments for the separation of brain metabolites in non-primates, enantioselective separations of synthetic anesthetic metabolites in fractionated pony urine, application in structural proteomics workflows, and identification of exogenous alkaloid biotransformationproducts in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). 4. Advanced computations and mass-spectrometric techniques to unravel the dynamics and interactions of proteins
Abstract : Proteins are an important class of biomolecules, involved in the metabolism, regulation, structure and transport in cells. Unfortunately, many diseases are caused by protein dysfunction. When proteins perform their normal function, they may interact with each other or change their conformation. READ MORE

5. Mass Spectrometry with Electrospray Ionization from an Adjustable Gap
Abstract : In this thesis the fabrication and analytical evaluation of two new electrospray emitters utilized for mass spectrometry analysis is presented. The emitters are based on a new concept, where the spray orifice can be varied in size. The thesis is based on two papers. All present-day nanoelectrospray emitters have fixed dimensions. READ MORE
