  1. 1. Transformation and Combination in Data-Driven Dependency Parcing

    Author : Jens Nilsson; Joakim Nivre; Ryan McDonald; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural Language Parsing; Dependency Parsing; Tree Transformation; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Computer and Information Sciences Computer Science; Data- och informationsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with automatic syntactic analysis of natural languagetext, also known as parsing. The parsing approach is data-driven, whichmeans that parsers are constructed by means of machine learning, lookingat training data in the form of annotated natural language sentences. The syntactic framework used in the thesis is dependency-based. READ MORE

  2. 2. Efflux of Sucrose from Mesophyll Cells during Apoplastic Phloem Loading in Pea

    Author : Chana Opaskornkul; Jim McDonald; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysiologisk botanik; Physiological Botany;

    Abstract : Efflux of sucrose from photosynthesizing mesophyll cells into the apoplastic space, during apoplastic phloem loading, was investigated using suspension of protoplasts and inside-out plasma membrane vesicles isolated from mature leaves of in Pisum sativum L. cv. Fenomen. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic Structuring and the Evolution of Lekking Behaviour in the White-bearded Manakin, Manacus manacus

    Author : Lisa Shorey; David McDonald; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Lek Evolution; Manacus manacus; White-bearded Manakin; Genetic Relatedness; Mating Success; Male Characteristics; Behaviour; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Abstract : Genetic structuring is common in natural populations. It is important to identify and consider population structure when studying evolutionary processes. Recently, the discovery of genetic structuring in some lekking bird species has opened up new perspectives on our understanding of the evolution of lek mating systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dewatering aspects at the forming section of the paper machine : Rewetting and forming fabric structure

    Author : Björn Sjöstrand; Lars Nilsson; Christophe Barbier; David McDonald; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rewetting; forming fabric; forming section; dewatering; web dryness; high vacuum suction box; vacuum dewatering; forming fabric design; numerical model; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The underlying motives of the research undertaken here are twofold: to obtain a deeper understanding of the dewatering mechanisms at the forming section of a papermaking machine and to develop numerical models that describe the flow through forming fabrics. More comprehensive knowledge of dewatering in the forming section allows suggestions to be made for improvements that reduce the amount of energy used in the process without affecting the quality of the end product. 5. 5. Predicting Linguistic Structure with Incomplete and Cross-Lingual Supervision

    Author : Oscar Täckström; Joakim Nivre; Jussi Karlgren; Ryan McDonald; Hal Daumé III; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; linguistic structure prediction; structured prediction; latent-variable model; semi-supervised learning; multilingual learning; cross-lingual learning; indirect supervision; partial supervision; ambiguous supervision; part-of-speech tagging; dependency parsing; named-entity recognition; sentiment analysis; Computational Linguistics; Datorlingvistik;

    Abstract : Contemporary approaches to natural language processing are predominantly based on statistical machine learning from large amounts of text, which has been manually annotated with the linguistic structure of interest. However, such complete supervision is currently only available for the world's major languages, in a limited number of domains and for a limited range of tasks.
