  1. 1. Determination of the thermal conductivity of the insulation in district heating mains : Field measurements

    Author : Karin Margaretha Borgström; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; district heating main; field measurements; thermal conductivity; measuring method; heat flow measurement; heat flux sensor; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the development of a measurement method for determination in the field of the thermal conductivity of the insulation in buried district heating mains. The thermal conductivity of the insulation is calculated from the measured value of the radial heat flow through the heating main, the measured temperature difference across the insulation, and the dimensions of the heating main. 2. 2. Constraining the top-Z coupling using the (ttWj)EW process with the ATLAS experiment : A search for physics beyond the Standard Model

    Author : Nabila Ahlgren; Jörgen Sjölin; Robert Schöfbeck; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; ATLAS; top physics; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics, having been confirmed by numerous experiments, is one of the most successful theories in physics. It describes all known elementary particles and their interactions through the electromagnetic, strong and weak force. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies in the Geometry of Quantum Measurements

    Author : Irina Dumitru; Ingemar Bengtsson; David Gross; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum measurements; Bell nequalities; Weyl-Heiseberg group; device-independent certification; symmetric informationally-complete POVM; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Quantum information studies quantum systems from the perspective of information theory: how much information can be stored in them, how much the information can be compressed, how it can be transmitted. Symmetric informationally-Complete POVMs are measurements that are well-suited for reading out the information in a system; they can be used to reconstruct the state of a quantum system without ambiguity and with minimum redundancy. 4. 4. Studies of collective phenomena in neutron deficient nuclei : by means of lifetime measurements, angular correlation measurements and the recoil-decay tagging technique

    Author : Karin Andgren; Bo Cederwall; Paul Nolan; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heavy-ion reactions; multi-detector arrays; recoil separator; in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy; high spin states; lifetime measurements; recoil-decay tagging; nuclear shape; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The nucleus is a mesoscopic system that retains features from both the quantum and macroscopic worlds. A basic property of a macroscopic body is its shape. Nuclear shapes can be deduced from experimental data as they influence the excitation mode of the nucleus and hence the energies and lifetimes of its excited levels. READ MORE

  5. 5. Top Quark Pair Production in ATLAS

    Author : Karl Gellerstedt; Jörgen Sjölin; Kerstin Jon-And; Cecilia Gerber; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; top quark; LHC; ATLAS; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the international particle physics laboratory CERN in Switzerland is currently the most powerful particle accelerator on earth. This thesis presents analyses of proton-proton collisions at the energy √s = 7 TeV, recorded by ATLAS, one of the detectors at the LHC. READ MORE
