  1. 1. Microfibrillated cellulose : Energy-efficient preparation techniques and key properties

    Author : Mikael Ankerfors; Lars Wågberg; Minna Hakkarainen; Paul Gatenholm; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfibrillated cellulose; microfibrillar cellulose; nanofibrillated cellulose nanofibrillar cellulose; nanocellulose; MFC; NFC; production techniques; energy efficient; gel properties; films; enzymes; carboxymethylation; carboxymethyl cellulose; CMC; mechanical properties; oxygen barrier; homogenization;

    Abstract : This work describes three alternative processes for producing microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) in which pulp fibres are first pre-treated and then homogenized using a high-pressure homogenizer. In one process, fibre cell wall delamination was facilitated with a combined enzymatic and mechanical pre-treatment. READ MORE

  2. 2. Rheological and mechanical properties of systems containing nanocellulose

    Author : Tobias Moberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shear rheology; Cellulose nanocrystals; Cellulose nanofibrils; Mechanical properties; Dynamic-mechanical analysis; Composites; Extensional rheology;

    Abstract : Nanocellulose is a cellulose entity at the nanoscale. There are several different types of nanocellulose such as cellulose nanofibrils (CNF), which are long, somewhat flexible fibrils and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), which are shorter and more rod-like particles. READ MORE

  3. 3. Design of Microstructures in Thermal Barrier Coatings : A Modelling Approach

    Author : Mohit Kumar Gupta; Per Nylén; Robert Vaβen; Högskolan Väst; []

    Abstract : Plasma sprayed Thermal Barrier Coating systems (TBCs) are commonly used for thermal protection of components in modern gas turbine application such as power generation, marine and aero engines. The material that is most commonly used in these applications is Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) because of this ceramic’s favourable properties, such as low thermal conductivity, phase stability to high temperature, and good erosion resistance. Abstract : Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are attracting increasing interest as devices with potentialuses in decentralized and clean electricity and heat production. Several challengeswith respect to materials have to be overcome to achieve efficiencies and life-spansthat are sufficient for long-term applications. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of plasticizing and crosslinking on the mechanical and barrier properties of coatings based on blends of starch and poly(vinyl alcohol)

    Author : Asif Javed; Lars Järnström; Henrik Ullsten; Peter Rättö; Karlstads universitet; []
