1. Development of an efficient solver for detailed kinetics in reactive flows
Abstract : The use of chemical kinetic mechanisms in CAE tools for reactive flow simulations is of high importance for studying and predicting pollutant formation. However, usage of complex reaction schemes is accompanied by high computational cost in both 1D and 3D-CFD frameworks. READ MORE

2. Femoral Strength Prediction using Finite Element Models : Validation of models based on CT and reconstructed DXA images against full-field strain measurements
Abstract : Osteoporosis is defined as low bone density, and results in a markedly increased risk of skeletal fractures. It has been estimated that about 40% of all women above 50 years old will suffer from an osteoporotic fracture leading to hospitalization. READ MORE

3. Non-destructive detection of glue deficiency in laminated wood using thermography
Abstract : The purpose of the work described in this doctorate thesis has been to study the potential of the non-contact and non-destructive test (NDT) method, thermography, to detect glue deficiency beneath a thin laminated layer of wood. The technological applications can for example be found in the parquet flooring industry. READ MORE

4. Effective development of haptic devices using a model-based and simulation-driven design approach
Abstract : Virtual reality (VR)-based surgical simulators using haptic devices can increase the effectiveness of surgical training for surgeons when performing surgical procedures in hard tissues such as bones or teeth milling. The realism of virtual surgery through a surgical simulator depends largely on the precision and reliability of the haptic device, which reflects the interaction with the virtual model. READ MORE

5. Long-term performance of poly(vinyl chloride) cables : mechanical and electrical performances and the effect of plasticizer migration
Abstract : Cables insulated with plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) were aged at temperatures between 80 and 180 °C in air and their conditions were assessed by indenter modulus measurements, tensile testing, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and liquid chromatography (HPLC). Electrical testing of oven-aged cable samples was performed in order to relate the electrical functionality during a high-energy line break accident to the mechanical properties and to establish a lifetime criterion.
