  1. 1. Water-Metal Surfaces : Insights from core-level spectroscopy and density functional theory

    Author : Theanne Schiros; Anders Nilsson; John Hemminger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : water; hydroxyl; metal; surfaces; x-ray spectroscopy; density functional theory; bonding; fuel cell; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Computational methods are combined with synchrotron-based techniques to analyze the structure and bonding of water and water plus hydroxyl at metal surfaces under UHV and at near-ambient conditions. Water-metal interaction plays a crucial role in a multitude of cosmic, atmospheric and biological phenomena as well as heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry and corrosion. READ MORE

    Author : Katharina Nilson; Carla Puglia; Joachim Schiessling; Emmanuelle Göthelid; Nils Mårtensson; Guy Le Lay; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic and molecular physics; Phthalocyanines; Surface Science; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy XPS ; X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy XAS ; Scanning Tunneling Microscopy STM ; Density Functional Theory DFT ; Metal-free Phthalocyanine; Iron Phthalocyanine; Zinc Phthalocyanine; Gold; Graphite; Aluminium; Indium Antimony; Molecular adsorption; Monolayer; Film; Alkali; Geometrical structure; Electronic structure; Doping; Atom- och molekylfysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The Phthalocyanines (Pc’s) are a group of macro-cyclic molecules, widely investigated due to the possibility to use them in a variety of applications. Electronic and geometrical structure investigations of molecular model systems of Pc’s adsorbed on surfaces are important for a deeper understanding of the functionality of different Pc-based devices. 3. 3. Molecular overlayers on homogeneous and heterogeneous metal surfaces studied by core-level photoemission

    Author : Maria Smedh; Fysiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photoelectron spectroscopy; core-level photoemission; electron energy loss spectroscopy; single crystal surfaces; metal surfaces; heterogeneous surfaces; adsorption; adsorbed molecules; hydrocarbons; molecular vibrations; carbon monoxide; adsorption sites; adsorption energy; diffusion; dissociation; Physics; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Smedh;

    Abstract : The main topic of this thesis is the investigation of small molecules adsorbed on metal surfaces by means of core-level photoemission spectroscopy. The thesis consists of three parts; The first group of papers concerns the effects of internal molecular vibrations on the core-level photoemission spectra. READ MORE

  4. 4. Bonding and Desorption Mechanismsof CO on Metal Surfaces

    Author : Jörgen Gladh; Henrik Öström; Mats Götelid; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bonding; Desorption; CO; Metal; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : I have investigated two different systems CO/Fe(100) and CO/Ru(0001), toobtain new information on the binding and desorption processes. The twodifferent systems have served as a model system, one for a static examination,CO on iron, and for the dynamic case, CO on ruthenium. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transition metal oxide surfaces : Surface structures and molecular interaction

    Author : Markus Soldemo; Jonas Weissenrieder; Mats Göthelid; Sarp Kaya; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Metal oxides are both corrosion products and useful materials with a wide range of applications. Two of the most used metals today are iron and copper. In this thesis, surface structures and molecular interaction with surfaces of iron oxides and copper oxides are studied using spectroscopy and microscopy methods. READ MORE
