  1. 1. Modeling of Inelastic Response of Metals with Emphasis on Cyclic Viscoplasticity

    Author : Magnus Ekh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; large strains; integration; anisotropy; plasticity; creep; viscoplasticity; kinematic hardening; metals; damage; calibration;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the continuum modeling of the macroscopic behavior of engineering metals, in particular as part of life prediction strategies. Focus is primarily placed on the formulation and numerics of models for cyclic rate-dependent response. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling of radiation damage and positron annihilation in metallic materials

    Author : Qigui Yang; Pär Olsson; Bernardo Barbiellini; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radiation damage; First-principles; Positron annihilation spectroscopy; Cu precipitation; Two-component density functional theory; Tungsten; Transition metals; Kärnenergiteknik; Nuclear Engineering; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The radiation damage is one of the key concerns in the research of materials used in radiation environments. In this thesis, we theoretically investigate the radiation damage phenomenon by focusing on two important topics: the defect production and evolution, and the defect characterization. The first part aims at two aspects. Abstract : Do metal particles (including particles of pure metals, alloys, metal oxides and compounds) pose a hazard or risk to human health? In the light of this question, this thesis summarizes results from research conducted on metal particles, and describes the elaboration and implementation of an in vitro test methodology to study metal release from particles through corrosion and dissolution processes in synthetic biological media relevant for human exposure through inhalation/ingestion and dermal contact. Bioaccessible metals are defined as the pool of released metals from particles that potentially could be made available for absorption by humans or other organisms. READ MORE

  4. 4. Investigation of compositionally complex refractory metal based thin films

    Author : Barbara Osinger; Erik Lewin; Ulf Jansson; Sebastian Siol; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetron sputtering; Thin films; High entropy materials; Refractory metals; Transition metal carbides; Kemi med inriktning mot materialkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : The search for new and improved materials has led to the discovery and establishment of compositionally complex or high-entropy materials. The work in this thesis is focused on the investigation of new compositionally complex materials based on the refractory metals of groups 4-6. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of Irradiation and Thermal Ageing on the Nanoscale Chemistry of Steel Welds

    Author : Kristina Lindgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spinodal decomposition; thermal ageing; low alloy steel; reactor pressure vessel; irradiation damage; atom probe tomography; core barrel; clustering;

    Abstract : Structural materials of nuclear power plants degrade during operation due to thermal ageing and irradiation from the reactor core. Effects on the materials are an increase in hardness and tensile strength, and a decrease in ductility and fracture toughness, i. e. embrittlement. READ MORE
