  1. 1. Ontology as Conceptual Schema when Modelling Historical Maps for Database Storage

    Author : Gustaf Svedjemo; Erland Jungert; Wollter Arnberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ontology; historical maps; database modelling; GIS; Geographical Information Systems; archaeology; history; ontologi; historiska kartor; databasmodellering; GIS; geografiska informationssystem; arkeologi; historia; Computer science; Datavetenskap; History subjects; Historieämnen;

    Abstract : Sweden has an enormous treasure in its vast number of large-scale historical maps from a period of 400 years made for different purposes, that we call map series. The maps are also very time and regional dependent with respect to their concepts. A large scanning project by Lantmäteriverket will make most of these maps available as raster images. READ MORE

  2. 2. Radon in Groundwater- Influencing Factors and Prediction Methodology for a Swedish Environment

    Author : Kirlna Skeppström; Bo Olofsson; Per Erik Jansson; Jon Petter Gustafsson; Gerhard Barmen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Radon; Grondwater; GIS; RV method; Multivariate statistics; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a method for predicting radon (222Rn) levels in groundwater on a general scale, within an area of approximately 185 x 145 km2. The method applies to Swedish conditions, where 222Rn is the main contributor to natural radioactivity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of a Detailed Geomorphological Mapping System and GIS Geodatabase in Sweden

    Author : Marcus Gustavsson; Else Kolstrup; Harry Seijmonsbergen; Ian S. Evans; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physical geography and sedimentology; Geomorphology; Geomorphological map; GIS; Sweden; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a method for detailed landscape presentation. The method incorporates both fieldwork-based comprehensive geomorphological description and digital data handling and thus contributes in filling the gap between traditional geomorphological mapping and modern geomorphological studies performed in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). 4. 4. Predictive Modelling of Aquatic Ecosystems at Different Scales using Mass Balances and GIS

    Author : Andreas Gyllenhammar; Lars Håkanson; Lars Brydsten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; mass balance model; dynamic model; scales; marine fish farms; rainbow trout; nutrients; suspended particulate matter; phosphorus; nitrogen; GIS; basin delineation; regionalisation; coastal areas; aquatic foodweb; fishing quotas; Baltic Sea; Archipelago Sea; Okavango Delta; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis presents models applicable for aquatic ecosystems. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) form an important part of the thesis. The dynamic mass balance models focus on nutrient fluxes, biotic/abiotic interactions and operate on different temporal and spatial scales (site, local, regional and international). READ MORE

  5. 5. A GIS-based landscape analysis of dissolved organic carbon in boreal headwater streams

    Author : Jan-Olov Andersson; Lars Nyberg; Hjalmar Laudon; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boreal forests; wetlands; vegetation types; headwater streams; catchment hydrology; streamwater chemistry; DOC; GIS; terrain analysis; DEM; slope; wetness index; TWI; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : In boreal catchments, stream water chemistry is influenced and controlled by several landscape factors. The influence of spatially distributed variables is in turn dependent on the hydrological scale. READ MORE
