  1. 1. Laboratory X-Ray Phase-Contrast Imaging : Methods and Comparisons

    Author : Tunhe Zhou; Anna Burvall; Hans M. Hertz; Tim Salditt; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray imaging; Phase-contrast; Liquid-metal-jet source; Propagation-based imaging; Grating-based imaging; Speckle-based imaging; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : X-ray phase-contrast imaging has seen rapid development in recent decades due to its superior performance in imaging low-absorption objects, compared to traditional attenuation x-ray imaging. Having higher demand on coherence, x-ray phase-contrast imaging is performed mostly at synchrotrons. READ MORE

  2. 2. The impact of visually demanding near work on neck/shoulder discomfort and trapezius muscle activity : Laboratory studies

    Author : Camilla Zetterberg; Hans O Richter; Mikael Forsman; Malin Josephson; Hanne Mari Schiøtz Thorud; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Accommodation; Asthenopia; Computer work; Eye-neck head stabilization; Muscle activity; Neck pain; Visual Attention; Visual demand; Visual ergonomics; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Introduction: Musculoskeletal discomfort in the neck and shoulders is common among workers performing visually demanding near work, e.g., on a computer screen, and sustained low-level muscle activity during such work can lead to work-related pain. READ MORE

    Abstract : Chronic pain affects 20 % of the global population, causes suffering, is difficult to treat, and constitutes a large economic burden for society. So far, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of chronic pain-like behaviors in animal models has not translated into effective treatments. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical Methods for Tympanic Membrane Characterisation : Towards Objective Otoscopy in Otitis Media

    Author : Mikael Sundberg; Tomas Strömberg; Ton van Leeuwen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Optical Methods; Spectroscopy; Surface Curvature; Monte Carlo; Tympanic Membrane; Otitis Media; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : Otitis media, which is an upper respiratory tract infection that affect the middle ear, is the second most common disease in childhood, outnumbered in prevalence only by the common cold. Diagnosis of middle ear inflammation is often performed in the primary healthcare where the normal procedure involves anamnesis and physical examination of the tympanic membranes (TM) of the patient, usually be means of otoscopy. 5. 5. Processing of the Phonocardiographic Signal : methods for the intelligent stethoscope

    Author : Christer Ahlström; Per Ask; Leif Sörnmo; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bioacoustics; phonocardiographic; signal processing; heart sound; lung sound; nonlinear dynamics; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : Phonocardiographic signals contain bioacoustic information reflecting the operation of the heart. Normally there are two heart sounds, and additional sounds indicate disease. If a third heart sound is present it could be a sign of heart failure whereas a murmur indicates defective valves or an orifice in the septal wall. READ MORE
