  1. 1. Tillage practices and their impact on soil organic carbon and the microbial community

    Author : Sofia Hydbom; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillage; Agriculture; Long-term field experiment; Microorganism; Clayey soil; Soil organic carbon; Farmer; Sweden;

    Abstract : Soil microorganisms are important for climate regulation as well as for plant nutrition. In agricultural soils the microorganisms are affected by management choices, like which type of tillage that is used. READ MORE

  2. 2. Microsystems Technology for Underwater Vehicle Applications

    Author : Jonas Jonsson; Greger Thornell; Hugo Nguyen; Johan Köhler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Aquatic; Submersible; Underwater; Micro; Miniaturized; Sonar; Sidescan; Topography; Laser; Diffractive; Optics; Sampler; Particle; Microorganism; Acoustic; Enriching; Conductivity; Temperature; Depth; CTD; Flow; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work has been to investigate how miniaturization, such as microsystems technology, can potentially increase the scientific throughput in exploration of hard-to-reach underwater environments, such as the subglacial lakes of Antarctica, or other challenging environments, including cave systems and wrecks. A number of instruments and subsystems applicable to miniature submersibles have been developed and studied, and their potential to provide a high functionality density for size-restricted exploration platforms has been assessed. 3. 3. Hydrodynamics considerations in cells systems from ocean flow to perfusion cultivation process

    Author : Caijuan Zhan; Véronique Chotteau; Jeffrey Chalmers; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microorganism; cells; hydrodynamics; turbulence; numerical simulation; CFD; Resonance; Wave bioreactor; ATF; TFF; perfusion; design feeding strategy; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Microorganisms and animal cells are grown surrounded by fluid, which is providing them with nutrients and removing their waste products. In nature and industry processes, cells/microbes can be subject to aggressive environments, such as turbulent flow or shear flow. READ MORE

  4. 4. Engineering short-chain carboxylic-acid metabolism in the model microorganism Escherichia coli

    Author : Gustav Sjöberg; Antonius J. A. van Maris; Solange Mussatto; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; metabolic engineering; R -3-hydroxybutyrate; volatile fatty acids; bioprocess design; Escherichia coli; bacterial artificial chromosome; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : The ever-increasing concern about carbon dioxide emissions has created an urgent need to develop alternative methods to cheaply and renewably produce materials, chemicals and fuels. The biorefinery is uniquely suited to deliver these products from sustainable biomass. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biological and Molecular Characteristics of Microorganism-Stimulated Defence Response in Lycopersicon esculentum –L

    Author : Idress H. Attitalla; Siv Andersson; Sture Brishammar; Sadik Tuzun; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Phytophthora cryptogea; Fusarium oxysporum strain IMI 386351; Pseudomonas sp. strain MF30; plant defence; phylogenetic analysis; differentiation methods; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Microorganisms, including two fungi, Phytophthora cryptogea and Fusarium oxysporum strain Fo-(IMI 386351), and one bacterium, Pesudomonas sp. strain MF30, were tested for their abilities to stimulate plant defence responses in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum –L.) and to serve as effective biocontrol agents (Bs).
