  1. 1. The role of Shb in ES cell differentiation, angiogenesis and tumor growth

    Author : Nina Funa; Michael Welsh; Leif Jansson; Lars Holmgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; Shb; tyrosine kinase signaling; ES; endoderm; mesoderm; apoptosis; microvasculature; tumor growth; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Shb is a ubiquitously expressed adaptor protein with the ability to bind several tyrosine kinase receptors and intracellular signaling proteins. Previous studies have implied a wide spectrum of Shb-mediated cellular responses, which motivated me to further investigate the role of Shb in differentiation and angiogenesis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Observations on cerebral amyloid angiopathy and microvascular pathology in Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia

    Author : Mattias Haglund; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Patologi allmän ; pathological anatomy; General pathology; Vascular dementia; Alzheimer s disease; Cerebral infarction; Locus ceruleus; White matter; Microvasculature; Cerebrovascular disease; patologisk anatomi; Ischemia; Cerebral amyloid angiopathy;

    Abstract : Dementia is a state of permanent loss of cognitive function, most commonly affecting the elderly. With a rapidly growing aged population, the spectrum of disorders that lead to dementia is exerting an ever-increasing toll on patients, families and society alike. The most common dementing disorders are Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fabrication advances of microvasculature models on-chip

    Author : Federico Cantoni; Maria Tenje; Niels Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 2-photon polymerization 3D printing; multi-hydrogel structure; vascula-ture model; microphysiological systems; organ-on-chip;

    Abstract : Despite the technological advances of the last decades, drug development remains a lengthy and costly process with uncertainties still associated with the poor predictive power of the in vitro and animal models. To address this limitation, microphysiological systems have been introduced in an attempt to increase the biological relevance of in vitro devices. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Microvasculature of Endogenous and Transplanted Pancreatic Islets : Blood Perfusion, Oxygenation and Islet Endocrine Function

    Author : Richard Olsson; Per-Ola Carlsson; Leif Jansson; Arne Andersson; Thomas Linn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; diabetes mellitus; pancreatic islets; islet transplantation; vascular engraftment; islet microcirculation; oxygenation; blood flow; protein biosynthesis; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes mellitus affects millions of people worldwide. Islet transplantation is a minimal invasive surgical procedure that restores euglycemia and halts the progression of diabetic complications. However, despite transplantation of islets from multiple donors most patients reverse to hyperglycemia within five years. READ MORE
