  1. 11. Discovery of Small Peptides and Peptidomimetics Targeting the Substance P 1-7 Binding Site : Focus on Design, Synthesis, Structure-Activity Relationships and Drug-Like Properties

    Author : Rebecca Fransson; Anja Sandström; John S Svendsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; substance P 1-7; peptidomimetics; structure-activity relationship; drug-like properties; phenylalanine; imidazole; MAP aryl amides; carbonylation; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : Biologically active peptides are important for many physiological functions in the human body and therefore serve as interesting starting points in drug discovery processes. In this work the neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-OH), which has been demonstrated to reduce neuropathic pain and attenuate opioid withdrawal symptoms in animal models, has been addressed in a medicinal chemistry program with the overall aim of transforming this bioactive peptide into more drug-like compounds. 2. 12. Palladium(II)-Catalyzed Coupling Reactions

    Author : Jonas Lindh; Mats Larhed; Matthew S. Sigman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Palladium II ; oxidative Heck reactions; Microwaves; Styrenes; Aryl ketones; Continuous flow; ESI-MS; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : Sustainable chemical processes are becoming increasingly important in all fields of synthetic chemistry. Catalysis can play an important role in developing environmentally benign chemical processes, and transition metals have an important role to play in the area of green chemistry. READ MORE

  3. 13. Development of dynamic microwave and sonication-assisted extraction techniques coupled on-line to gas chromatography

    Author : Magnus Ericsson; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the evaluation and construction of two solvent extraction methods for solid samples. The techniques are called Dynamic microwaveassisted extraction (I-III) and Dynamic sonication-assisted solvent extraction (IV-V). Both techniques are based on dynamic solvent extraction and are performed at elevated temperatures and pressures. READ MORE

  4. 14. Antiadhesive agents targeting uropathogenic Escherichia coli : Multivariate studies of protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions

    Author : Andreas Larsson; Jan Kihlberg; Fredrik Almqvist; Mats Larhed; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Antibacterial; pili; antiadhesive agents; structure based design; statistical molecular design; 2-pyridone; amino acid derivative; galabiose; enaminone; SPR; ELISA; QSAR; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis describes studies directed towards development of novel antiadhesive agents, with particular emphasis on compounds that prevent attachment of bacteria to a host-cell. Three different proteins involved in the assembly or function of adhesive pili in uropathogenic Escherichia coli have been targeted either by rational structure based design or statistical molecular methods.
