  1. 1. Levosimendan vs. Milrinone: Early Renal and Hemodynamic Outcomes after lnfant Cardiac Surgery

    Author : Elin M. Thorlacius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiac surgery; infants; congenital heart lesions; levosimendan; milrinone; acute kidney injury; myocardial function; biomarkers;

    Abstract : Background: Myocardial and renal dysfunction are common after cardiac surgery in young children, which increases risk of complications and delayed recovery. Inodilators, such as milrinone and levosimendan, are frequently used to reduce the risk of low cardiac output syndrome in infants after cardiac surgery. READ MORE

    Abstract : It is a major clinical problem that survival rates after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest have not markedly improved during the last decades, despite extensive research and the introduction of new interventions. However, recent studies have demonstrated promising treatments such as targeted temperature management (TTM) and methylene blue (MB). READ MORE

  3. 3. Cardiac effects of non-adrenergic inotropic drugs : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Birger Axelsson; Michael Haney; Hans Tydén; Anil Gupta; Patrick Wouters; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Milrinone; levosimendan; vein graft flow; myocardial ischemia; protection; inotropy; diastole; Anaesthesiology; anestesiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Myocardial failure and dysfunction is not uncommon during critical illness and following cardiac surgery. For optimal treatment, a better understanding of the effects of inotropic drugs is needed. In this thesis, two non-adrenergic mediated inotropes, milrinone and levosimendan were studied in different models of myocardial dysfunction. READ MORE

  4. 4. Strain echocardiography in cardiac surgery - studies on the effects of loading conditions and inotropic agents on myocardial contraction and relaxation

    Author : Martin Fredholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; strain echocardiography; right heart catheterization; cardiac surgery; heart failure; levosimendan; milrinone; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; systole; diastole; preload; afterload; pacing; longitudinal function; ventricular dimensions; ventricular interdependence;

    Abstract : Background: Although reductions in myocardial contractility and relaxation are key compo-nents in heart failure (HF), assessment of them is difficult, as clinical measurements deal with a net effect of myocardial contractility, heart filling (preload), outflow impedance (afterload) and heart rate (HR). Echocardiographic (echo) deformation parameters, like strain (myocardial shortening) and strain rate (the speed of deformation, SR), have been proposed to more accu-rately measure myocardial function, but incongruent previous studies have raised concerns that they may be load-dependent. 5. 5. Pathophysiology and treatment of Takotsubo Syndrome - insights from preclinical studies

    Author : Anwar Ali Gasim Elsied; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Takotsubo;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Background: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS), also recognized as “stress-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC)” and “broken heart syndrome”, is an acute cardiac failure syndrome characterized by transient regional ventricular akinesia or hypokinesia, and often presents similarly to acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In contrast to AMI, the characteristic regional myocardial akinesia in TTS does not involve a culprit coronary artery. READ MORE
