  1. 1. Hydrophobic surfaces: Effect of surface structure on wetting and interaction forces

    Author : Petra M Hansson; Per M. Claesson; Agne Swerin; Adam C Simonsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrophobic surface; superhydrophobic surface; atomic force microscopy; surface forces; capillary forces; cavitaion; surface roughness; friction; wetting; confocal Raman; contact angles; surface preparation; Langmuir-Blodgett;

    Abstract : The use of hydrophobic surfaces is important for many processes both in nature and industry. Interactions between hydrophobic species play a key role in industrial applications such as water-cleaning procedures and pitch control during papermaking but they also give information on how to design surfaces like hydrophobic mineral pigments. 2. 2. A surface approach to understanding the dissolution of fluorite type materials : Implications for mineral dissolution kinetic models

    Author : José Ricardo Assunção Godinho; Sandra Piazolo; Andreas Lüttge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dissolution; topography; fluorite; surface; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Abstract : Traditional dissolution models are based in the analyses of bulk solution compositions and ignore the fact that different sites of a surface dissolve at different rates. Consequently, the variation of surface area and surface reactivity during dissolution are not considered for the calculation of the overall dissolution rate, which is expected to remain constant with time. 3. 3. Sampling from large flotation cells : An invastigation of spatial distribution

    Author : Lisa Malm; Jan Rosenkranz; Tommy Karlkvist; Anders Sand; Nils-Johan Bolin; Pertti Lamberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flotation; sampling; Mineral Processing; Mineralteknik;

    Abstract : The general trend in flotation technology today is towards larger flotation cells, which enables a higher throughput. However, adverse effects such as segregation and reduced froth transport efficiency have also been observed in larger cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sulphide mineral flotation : a new insight into oxidation mechanisms

    Author : Alireza Javadi; Jan D. Miller; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mineralteknik; Mineral Processing;

    Abstract : Formation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), an oxidizing agent stronger than oxygen, by sulphide minerals during grinding was investigated. It was found that pyrite (FeS2), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), sphalerite ((Zn,Fe)S), and galena (PbS), which are the most abundant sulphide minerals on Earth, generated H2O2 in pulp liquid during wet grinding in the presence or devoid of dissolved oxygen in water and also when the freshly ground solids are placed in water immediately after dry grinding. 5. 5. Specific surface area of some minerals commonly found in granite

    Author : Isabelle E. Dubois; Maria E. Malmström; Bo Strömberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Granite; Mineral; Surface area; BET; Sorption; Particle size;

    Abstract : The specific surface area, determined by the BET method, is a parameter often used to scale results of mineral studies of surface reactions in terms of rate and capacity to the field scale. Such extrapolations of results from small-scale laboratory experiments to the field-scale are important within many environmental applications. READ MORE
