1. Nanofabrication of Single Electron Transistors and Evaluation of Miniature Biosensors
Abstract : This thesis deals with miniaturization in two different fields: electronics and biosensing. The first part deals with fabrication and measurements of two nanoscale structures - a self-assembled single electron transistor and a (potential) single junction device. READ MORE

2. Masking Moments : The Transitions of Bodies and Beings in Late Iron Age Scandinavia
Abstract : This thesis explores bodily representations in Late Iron Age Scandinavia (400–1050 AD). Non-human bodies, such as gold foil figures, and human bodies are analysed. The work starts with an examination and deconstruction of the sex/gender categories to the effect that they are considered to be of minor value for the purposes of the thesis. READ MORE

3. Miniaturized, Membrane-Based and Environmentally Green Sample Preparation Systems: Applications for Biological and Environmental Aqueous Samples
Abstract : Contemporary advancements in miniaturization of analytical systems have advantageously fostered development, automation, and hyphenation of a variety of sample preparation techniques. Among several downscaled extraction designs, porous synthetic polymeric membranes (such as flat sheet (FS) or hollow fiber (HF)) have been utilized for membrane-based extraction, separating two aqueous phases (as in supported liquid membrane (SLM) extraction or one aqueous phase and another organic phase (as in microporous membrane liquid-liquid extraction (MMLLE)). 4. Microfluidic biosensing systems based on enzymes, antibodies and cells
Abstract : The rapid developments within the life science and biotechnology areas put up ever-new demands on more sophisticated techniques and methods for chemical and biological analysis to reach deeper insight into the events at molecular level. Miniaturisation of assays and systems on microchips is one way to increase throughput and advance through parallel analysis lines, multiplexing and integration. READ MORE

5. New methods for sensitive analysis with nanoelectrospray ionization mass spectrometry
Abstract : In this thesis, new methods that address some current limitations in nanoelectrospray mass spectrometry (nESI-MS) analysis are presented. One of the major objectives is the potential gain in sensitivity that can be obtained when employing the proposed techniques. READ MORE
