  1. 1. Cyclic Nucleotide Phosphodiesterase 3B: Regulation in rat adipocytes and 3T3-L1 cells

    Author : Tova Landström; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3T3-L1 TNF-alpha; adipocyte; insulin; p70S6 kinase; mitogen-activated protein kinase; protein kinase B; phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase; phosphodiesterase 3B; cAMP; lipolysis; phosphorylation; signal transduction; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : Insulin stimulation of rat adipocytes results in phosphorylation and activation of the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase 3B (PDE3B), a key enzyme in the antilipolytic signalling pathway of this hormone. In this thesis, the site phosphorylated in PDE3B upon stimulation of rat adipocytes with insulin and/or the beta-adrenergic agonist, isoproterenol is identified. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adenosine receptor signaling and the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases

    Author : Gunnar Schulte; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The nucleoside adenosine is present in all cells and body fluids of all living organisms; its production, both intracellularly and extracellularly, is tightly coupled to energy consumption resulting in increasing extracellular adenosine levels with increased energy consumption. Adenosine is metabolized by adenosine deaminase and adenosine kinase. READ MORE

  3. 3. Organelle movement in melanophores: Effects of Panax ginseng, ginsenosides and quercetin

    Author : Therese Eriksson; Rolf Andersson; Samuel Svensson; Ingemar Lundström; Robert Kronstrand; Per Hammarström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : melanophores; Panax ginseng; ginsenosides; quercetin; organell anterograde transport; endothelin-3; mitogen activated protein kinase; protein kinase C; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Panax ginseng is a traditional herb that has been used for over 2000 years to promote health and longevity. Active components of ginseng include ginsenosides, polysaccharides, flavonoids, polyacetylenes, peptides, vitamins, phenols and enzymes, of which the ginsenosides are considered to be the major bioactive constituents. 4. 4. Changes in mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphorylation and inorganic phosphate induced by skeletal muscle contraction

    Author : Charlott Wretman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Skeletal muscle; MAP kinase; signal transduction; contraction; acute exercise; exercise intensity; fibre-type; concentric; ROS; eccentric.;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscles adjust to the level of contractile activity by different biochemical alterations. Contraction is a multifactorial stimulus with short-term metabolic effects and long-term responses due to changes in protein synthesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Protein Kinase Inhibition in Late Cerebral Ischemia after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

    Author : Saema Ansar; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; protein kinase; cerebral ischemia; subarachnoid hemorrage; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi;

    Abstract : The cerebral ischemia that occur after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) often results in death or severe disability and is a significant cause of stroke. Our hypothesis is that cerebral ischemia leads to pathophysiological receptor changes on the vascular smooth muscle cells. READ MORE
