  1. 1. Study on some phenomena of slag in steelmaking process

    Author : Liushun Wu; Sichen Du; Carlo Mapelli; KTH; []
    Keywords : Slag viscosity; calcium fluoride; fluid viscosity with particles; mixture viscosity; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The present work is to study slag phenomena in steelmaking process. In order to attain thegoal, a number of high temperature experiments and simulation experiments were carried out. Four master slags were used to study the effect of CaF2 on slag viscosity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Association Phenomena Involving Hydrophobically Modified Polymers. Electrostatic and Hydrophobic Contributions

    Author : Marina Tsianou; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scaling; light scattering; rheology; aqueous solution behavior; phase behavior; cyclodextrin; surfactant; polyacrylate; cellulose ether; polyelectrolyte; hydrophobically modified polymer; Polymer; water soluble polymer; viscosity; association; segregation; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions in aqueous solutions of hydrophobically-modified water-soluble non-ionic or ionic polymers, their mixtures with a second polymer, nonionic or of opposite charge, and their mixtures with surfactants of opposite charge have been investigated. The relative strength of the electrostatic and hydrophobic contributions has been modulated by a variation of the polymer charge density and the solution pH, and by a variation in the degree and strength of the hydrophobic modifications, respectively. 3. 3. Emulsification of Alkyl Ketene Dimer (AKD) -characterization of dispersions and emulsifiers

    Author : Kristina Mohlin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrolysis; droplet size; hydrophobizing agent; dispersion; surfactant; AKD; emulsification; viscosity; surface tension; polymer; phase behavior; Alkyl Ketene Dimer;

    Abstract : Alkyl Ketene Dimer (AKD) is a commonly used hydrophobizing agent in the paper industry, introducing capillary absorption barriers for polar liquids, which makes the paper more resistant to liquid penetration. Since AKD is a so-called internal sizing agent it is usually added in the form of a water-borne dispersion. READ MORE

    Author : Ylva Edwards; Ulf Isacsson; Klaus-Werner Damm; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bitumen; asphalt; additives; wax in bitumen; polyphosphoric acid in bitumen; rheology; IR-spectroscopy; dynamic mechanic analysis DMA ; bending beam rheometer BBR ; literature study; low temperature physical hardening; highway materials; morphology; modified bitumens; temperature susceptibility; low temperature performance; ageing; microscopy; chromatography; Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; force ductility; conventional binder tests; asphalt performance; tensile strain restrained specimen test TSRST ; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis consists of a literature review, presented in two papers, and another six papers describing experimental studies of the influence of different kinds of wax and polyphosporic acid on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture properties. The literature review should give an extensive description of the field of knowledge concerning wax in bitumen. READ MORE

  5. 5. Morphology Characterization of Foam Bitumen and Modeling for Low Temperature Asphalt Concrete

    Author : Biruk Hailesilassie; Manfred Partl; Kim Jenkins; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; foam characteristics; evolution of foam bitumen bubbles; image analysis; modeling rising of bubble; foam asphalt mixture; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Abstract : Development of new asphalt technologies to reduce both energy consumption and CO2 production has attracted great interest in recent years. The use of foam bitumen, as one of them, is attractive due to the low investment and production cost. READ MORE
