  1. 1. Case studies in omniparametric simulation

    Author : Fredrik Lundin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; growth model; Ising model; Markov chain; omnithermal simulation; omniparametric simulationpercolatiion; Potts model; parameter estimation; partial observations; random cluster model; Richardson model; simulation driven parameter estimation; two-type Richardson model; omnithermal simulation;

    Abstract : In the eld of particle systems and growths models simulation is an important tool. When explicit calculations are too complex or impossible to perform we may use simulations instead. We adapt a new technique here denoted omniparametric simulation, to the two-type Richardson, Ising and Potts models. READ MORE

  2. 2. Novel Statistical Methods in Quantitative Genetics : Modeling Genetic Variance for Quantitative Trait Loci Mapping and Genomic Evaluation

    Author : Xia Shen; Örjan Carlborg; Lars Rönnegård; William Hill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; statistical genetics; quantitative trait loci; genome-wide association study; genomic selection; genetic variance; hierarchical generalized linear model; linear mixed model; random effect; heteroscedastic effects model; variance-controlling genes; Complex Systems – Microdata Analysis;

    Abstract : This thesis develops and evaluates statistical methods for different types of genetic analyses, including quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis, genome-wide association study (GWAS), and genomic evaluation. The main contribution of the thesis is to provide novel insights in modeling genetic variance, especially via random effects models. READ MORE

  3. 3. Improvement and Assessment of Two-Dimensional Resistivity Models Derived from Radiomagnetotelluric and Direct-Current Resistivity Data

    Author : Thomas Kalscheuer; Laust B. Pedersen; Christopher Juhlin; Roland Roberts; Heinrich Brasse; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electromagnetic geophysics; radiomagnetotellurics; direct-current resistivity; displacement currents; dielectric effect; non-linearity; inversion; regularization; two-dimensional model; model variance; model resolution; data resolution; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : Two-dimensional (2-D) models of electrical resistivity are improved by jointly inverting radiomagnetotelluric (RMT) and direct-current resistivity (DCR) data or by allowing for displacement currents in the inversion of RMT data collected on highly resistive bedrock. Uniqueness and stability of the 2-D models are assessed with a model variance and resolution analysis that allows for the non-linearity of the inverse problem. READ MORE

  4. 4. Model on Demand : Algorithms, Analysis and Applications

    Author : Anders Stenman; Fredrik Gustafsson; Lennart Ljung; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : System identification deals with the problem of estimating models of dynamical systems from observed data. In this thesis, we focus on the identification of nonlinear models, and, in particular, on the situation that occurs when a very large amount of data is available. READ MORE

  5. 5. Model Based Speech Enhancement and Coding

    Author : David Yuheng Zhao; Bastiaan Kleijn; Peter Kabal; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; statistical model; Gaussian mixture mdel GMM ; hidden Markov model HMM ; moise reduction; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Abstract : In mobile speech communication, adverse conditions, such as noisy acoustic environments and unreliable network connections, may severely degrade the intelligibility and natural- ness of the received speech quality, and increase the listening effort. This thesis focuses on countermeasures based on statistical signal processing techniques. READ MORE
