  1. 1. Road disasters? Modeling and assessment of Swedish roads within crucial climate conditions

    Author : Alireza Nickman; Bo Olofsson; Per-Erik Jansson; Nils-Otto Kitterød; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Road; Flood; Moisture; Temperature; Groundwater; GIS; Uncertainity; Sweden; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : An efficient maintenance of roads to ensure high accessibility and durability of the transport capacity requires an understanding of how the hydrological response depends on both the road and the landscape characteristics. New methods and data were used to identify and explain interaction between roads and surrounding environment and their influence on hydrologic responses both in watershed scale and road-section scale. 2. 2. Interaction of water with supplementary cementitious materials: Hydration mechanism, microstructure and moisture transport

    Author : Liming Huang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydration; moisture transport; Supplementary cementitious materials; electrical conductivity; formation factor; durability; microstructure;

    Abstract : Supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) offer a sustainable solution to reduce carbon emissions from the production of cement and concrete. This dissertation explores the impact of SCMs and the related additives on the hydration process of cementitious materials, which can affect their microstructure and transport properties. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigating Effects of Water Injection on SI Engines

    Author : Jayesh Khatri; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : In recent years, there has been a major shift towards the partial or complete electrification of vehicles that have traditionally been powered by conventional internal combustion (IC) engines; almost all major automotive manufacturers have rightly stated that they will make such a shift. This has been motivated in large part by pressure from governments and policymakers to minimize vehicular emissions, especially those of the greenhouse gas CO2, in order to control climate change. 4. 4. Numerical Analysis of Moisture-Related Distortion in Sawn Timber

    Author : Sigurdur Ormarsson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computer simulations; Deformation; Wood; Moisture; Drying; Finite element method; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : A 3D theory for the numerical simulation of deformations and stresses in wood during moisture variation is described. The constitutive model employed assumes the total strain rate to be the sum of the elastic strain rate, the moisture-induced strain rate, the mechano-sorption strain rate and the creep strain rate. 5. 5. Applied Modeling of Moisture Phenomena in Concrete

    Author : Marcin Stelmarczyk; Andrzej Cwirzen; Hans Hedlund; Klaas van Breugel; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Concrete; Modeling degree of hydration; Modeling chemically bounded water; Modeling moisture sorption; Modeling moisture transport; Hysteresis; Byggmaterial; Building Materials;

    Abstract : This thesis contains new and improved calculation models, based on applied research merging numerical modeling and material research, in the areas of hydration and chemical binding of water, sorption of moisture and transport of moisture in concrete. The proposed model for hydration and chemical binding of water is based on general kinetics modeling and calculates degree of hydration directly, without using of equivalent time of maturity.
