1. Growth of ZnO/GaN distributed Bragg reflectors by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy
Abstract : This thesis describes epitaxial growth of ZnO/GaN distributed Bragg reflectors by hybrid plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy on GaN(0001). The unique hybrid approach employed the same growth chamber for continuous growth of both ZnO and GaN without exposing the layers to the ambient conditions. READ MORE

2. Molecular investigations of atmospherically relevant interface processes: ice formation and water accommodation on ice and organic surfaces
Abstract : Clouds and aerosols play important roles in the climate system by affecting on atmospheric chemistry, the radiation budget of the atmosphere, and the water cycle including the formation of precipitation. Climate models with predictive power require quantitative descriptions of aerosols and clouds, but several key processes remain to be fully understood. READ MORE

3. Near-infrared photodetectors based on Si/SiGe nanostructures
Abstract : Two types of photodetectors containing Ge/Si quantum dots have been fabricated based on materials grown by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized with several experimental techniques. The aim was to study new device architectures with the implementation of Ge nanostructures, in order to obtain high detection efficiency in the near infrared range at room temperature. READ MORE

4. STM studies of epitaxial overlayers formed by metal deposition : Mo on MgO, Ni on SiC and Sn on Si
Abstract : Magnetron sputtering and molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) have been used to deposit metallic overlayers on semiconducting and insulating materials such as Mo on MgO, Ni on SiC(0001) and Sn on Si(111). The layers have been annealed and characterized with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), low energy electron diffration (LEED), refiecti ve high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
