  1. 1. Mechanisms Underlying Intensive Care Unit Muscle Wasting : Intervention Strategies in an Experimental Animal Model and in Intensive Care Unit Patients

    Author : Monica Llano-Diez; Lars Larsson; Marco Sandri; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute quadriplegic myopathy; intensive care unit; myosin; regulation of contraction; muscle atrophy; mechanical loading; mobilization; Clinical Neurophysiology; Klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) commonly develop severe muscle wasting and weakness and consequently impaired muscle function. This not only delays respirator weaning and ICU discharge, but has deleterious effects on morbidity, mortality, financial costs, and quality of life of survivors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Numerical and experimental study of performance of a hydraulic motor

    Author : Leon Dahlén; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydraulic fluid; hydrostatic transmission; hydraulic motor; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Maskinelement;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to develop an understanding of the fluid properties that influence the efficiency of hydraulic systems in a steady-state, especially components in hydrostatic transmission systems under different running conditions. The aim has also been to investigate and model the sources of losses in hydraulic machines, in order to estimate the losses, taking fluid properties into account. READ MORE

  3. 3. Using life cycle assessment to support the development of electrified road vehicles. Component data models, methodology recommendations and technology advice for minimizing environmental impact

    Author : Anders Nordelöf; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; inverter; magnet; LCI; electrical machine; stepwise improvements; electric vehicle; LCA; inventory data; motor; critical review; scalable model;

    Abstract : The anthropogenic pressure on the Earth system already overshoots safe limits for climate change, so there is an urgent need to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by transportation. Electric propulsion technology is a promising solution that can decouple fossil fuel use from road vehicle traffic. READ MORE

  4. 4. Spatio-temporal processing of surface electromyographic signals : information on neuromuscular function and control

    Author : Christer Grönlund; Leif Sörnmo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EMG; multichannel surface electromyography; motor unit action potentials; conduction velocity; muscle architecture; signal quality; spatial distributions; synchronization; muscle function; motor control; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Abstract : During muscle contraction, electrical signals are generated by the muscle cells. The analysis of those signals is called electromyography (EMG). The EMG signal is mainly determined by physiological factors including so called central factors (central nervous system origin) and peripheral factors (muscle tissue origin). READ MORE

  5. 5. Efficiency of building related pump and fan operation - Application and system solutions

    Author : Caroline S Markusson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; motor drive; control-on-demand; hydronic systems; air systems; electric motor; variable speed; decentralized systems; pump; electric energy; fan; local systems; efficiency;

    Abstract : The electric energy use in Swedish non-industrial buildings is 71 TWh per year out of which 30 TWh per year is used for the operation of technical systems. A significant part of those 30 TWh/year is used for pump and fan operation. The Swedish parliament decided in 2009 on a national energy and climate plan. READ MORE
