  1. 1. Process analytical methods for monitoring of the film coating on pharmaceutical pellets and tablets using NIR spectrometry and image analysis

    Author : Martin Andersson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PLS; PCA; PAC; NIR; chemometrics; moving samples; information depth; release rate; image analysis; near infrared; process analytical chemistry; thickness; coating; film; tablets; Pellets; granules; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Pharmaceutical tablets and pellets are often covered with a coating. There is a need for methods that enable monitoring of the growth of such films during processing. Such analyses can be performed using process analytical chemical methods based on near infrared (NIR) diffuse reflectance spectrometry. It provides with analyses that take only ca. READ MORE

  2. 2. Separation of biomolecules using Open-Loop Non-Isocratic Simulated moving bed (SMB) technology

    Author : Deepti Sahoo; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Open-loop Non-Isocratic SMB; Simulated moving bed; True moving bed Chromatography; continuous separation; protein purification; batch chromatography;

    Abstract : In biotechnological industries, downstream processing is a bottleneck in the complete production process. There is a wish to reduce the costs and therefore one tries to operate separation technology in continuous mode. READ MORE

  3. 3. Precise Image-Based Measurements through Irregular Sampling

    Author : Teo Asplund; Robin Strand; Cris L. Luengo Hendriks; Matthew J. Thurley; Gunilla Borgefors; Hugues Talbot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; image analysis; image processing; mathematical morphology; irregular sampling; adaptive morphology; missing samples; continuous morphology; path opening.; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Abstract : Mathematical morphology is a theory that is applicable broadly in signal processing, but in this thesis we focus mainly on image data. Fundamental concepts of morphology include the structuring element and the four operators: dilation, erosion, closing, and opening. READ MORE

  4. 4. X-ray and neutron μCT of biomedical samples: from image acquisition to quantification

    Author : Niccoló Peruzzi; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; x-ray imaging; neutron imaging; μCT; synchrotron radiation; x-ray phase-contrast; nanoholotomography; x-ray elemental mapping; biomedical applications; virtual histology; biodegradable implants; Mg-alloys; enteric nervous system; peripheral neuropathy; gastroenteric dysmotility; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Peruzzi;

    Abstract : Even though the validity of x-ray computed tomography in the analysis of biomedical samples is nowadays undisputed, the more recent imaging techniques and more advanced instruments (such as synchrotrons) are still relatively unknown to many medical doctors that could benefit from them.The doctoral work presented in this thesis joins a collective effort from the imaging community to demonstrate potential applications of advanced x-ray and neutron imaging methods to preclinical medical research, with the hope of contributing to reach a “critical mass” in the medical community and in the public opinion as well. 5. 5. Animals and Humans : Human-animal interaction in northern Sweden during the late glacial and postglacial time

    Author : Therese Ekholm; Sabine Sten; Carl-Gösta Ojala; Ola Magnell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Mesolithic; fauna; radiocarbon dating; northern Sweden; calcined bones; pioneers; hunter-gatherers; zooarchaeology; lithic technology; taphonomy; 8.2 k BP cold event; prey.; Archaeology; Arkeologi;

    Abstract : When the last remnant of the Weichsel glacier melted in northern Sweden, around 7000 BC, pioneer settlers entered virgin land, following their prey, which in turn followed the vegetation dispersion. Some of the settlers derived from the east and the northeast and spread from the Russian taiga, through Finland and into northern Sweden, the study area for this thesis. READ MORE
