1. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs. As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 2. On multi body systems simulation in product design
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to provide a basis for efficientmodelling and software use in simulation driven productdevelopment. The capabilities of modern commercial computersoftware for design are analysed experimentally andqualitatively. READ MORE

3. Active Vibration Control of Multibody Systems : Application to Automotive Design
Abstract : Active vibration control to reduce vibrations and structure borne noise is considered using a powerful multi-disciplinary virtual design environment which enables control system design to be considered as an integral part of the overall vehicle design. The main application studied is active automotive engine vibration isolation where, first, the potential of large frequency band multi-input multi-output H2 feedback control is considered. READ MORE

5. Lean Prototyping of Multi-body and Mechatronic Systems
Abstract : Major drivers behind increased efforts in product development are the increased competition due to globalisation and the urgent transformation of society towards sustainability. Furthermore, the average product lifetime has been compressed significantly over the last decade. READ MORE
