  1. 1. Cancer Risk Assessment of Glycidol : Evaluation of a Multiplicative Risk Model for Genotoxic Compounds

    Author : Jenny Aasa; Margareta Törnqvist; Elaine M. Faustman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glycidol; 3-monochloropropane-1; 2-diol 3-MCPD ; genotoxicity; mutations; micronuclei; hemoglobin adducts; in vivo dose; multiplicative risk model; cancer risk assessment; human cancer risk; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Abstract : Humans are exposed to chemical compounds in everyday life, both from the environment and from endogenous processes. Some compounds constitute a risk for cancer development. One such compound is glycidol, which is genotoxic and an animal carcinogen. It is the model compound of this work, partly due to its presence in food. READ MORE

  2. 2. Interaction of genetic susceptibility and traffic-related air pollution in cardiovascular disease

    Author : Anna Levinsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular disease; genetic variants; air pollution; gene-environment interaction;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed at investigating gene-environment interaction in cardiovascular disease (CVD). A study population of 618 coronary heart disease (CHD) cases (of which 192 first-time acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients) and 3614 randomly selected population controls was genotyped for genetic variants in genes coding for nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and glutathione s-transferase (GST). 3. 3. Which Genes are Involved? - Statistical Planning and Analysis of Human Genetic Samples

    Author : Staffan Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of six papers related to the statistical planning and analysis of human genetic samples. The first four mainly concern statistical methodology, while the last two are applied papers in genetics and medicin. In paper A an alternative method of estimating the locus specific sibling relative risk .lambda. READ MORE

  4. 4. Genetic analysis of candidate susceptibility genes for type 1 diabetes

    Author : Samina Asad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a complex disease where the pancreatic β-cells are destroyed in an autoimmune attack. For the patients, this leads to lifelong daily insulin treatment and increased risk for various kinds of complications. It is thought that both environmental as well as genetic factors act in concert to cause T1D. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetics of primary immunodeficiency diseases

    Author : Javad Mohammadi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HLA Antigens; IgA deficiency; Common variable immunodeficiency; immunogenetics; immunodeficiency; TACI;

    Abstract : Selective IgA deficiency (IgAD) (serum IgA concentration of T), which abolished expression of the TACI molecule. In addition, we found the previously recognized C104R and C172Y mutations in a heterozygous form in 2 patients with CVID and one, novel, heterozygous P42T mutation. READ MORE
