  1. 1. Leisure and muscular performance in health and disease : a study of 40-64-year-old northern Swedes

    Author : Björn Gerdle; Kerstin Sjögren; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Leisure; health; skeletal muscle; isokinetics; electromyography; plantar flexion; muscular fatigue;

    Abstract : Categories and frequencies of leisureactivities employed by 156 randomly selected males and females aged 40-44, 50-54, 60-64 were investigated by structured interviews and were related to leisuresatisfaction, to experienced health and socio-economic status. In equal numbers (15) of males and females from each group and in 24 males (60 +_6 years) with intermittent claudication (Cl) isokinetic plantar flexion performance was investigated with registrations of peak torque (PT), contractional work (CW), active range-of-motion (RoM) and integrated electromyograms from all threee triceps surae heads. 2. 2. Game demands and fatigue profiles in elite football – an individual approach -Implications for training and recovery strategies

    Author : Dan Fransson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Soccer; match analysis; performance; muscle fatigue; small-sided games; training; high intensity excercise; muscular oxidative capacity;

    Abstract : The physical activities performed during a football game are of intermittent prolonged character, including explosive actions and running at different speeds. The prolonged intermittent activities are conjoined with periods where physical intensity is markedly increased. READ MORE

  3. 3. Kinetic chain weight training, strength assessment, and functional performance testing: with reference to sports and rehabilitation

    Author : Jesper Augustsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; open kinetic chain; closed kinetic chain; weight training; strength assessment; functional tests; anterior cruciate ligament; reconstruction; fatigue;

    Abstract : The overall purpose of the studies was to obtain knowledge about physical performance in healthy individuals and patients after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Data are presented that concerns closed and open kinetic chain exercise, adaptive response to weight training, the methodology of muscle strength assessment, and the development of a functional testing protocol performed under conditions of fatigue. 4. 4. On the treatment of Achilles tendon rupture. A prospective, randomised study of the results after surgical and non-surgical treatment

    Author : Michael Möller; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Achilles tendon; rupture; score; prospective; randomised controlled trial; isokinetic; muscular endurance; magnetic resonance imaging; ultrasonography;

    Abstract : Only two prospective, randomised studies have been published on the outcome after treatment for Achilles tendon rupture. The controversy regarding the optimal treatment continues. In the present study, 112 patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture were randomised and all of them were followed up for two years. READ MORE

    Abstract : The ability to obtain correct balance control information and adjust motor performance appropriately are essential elements in effective postural control. However, functional disorders may affect the reliability of receptor information and ability to carry out corrective motions needed to maintain balance. READ MORE
