  1. 1. Subject-specific musculoskeletal modeling of the lower extremities in persons with unilateral cerebral palsy

    Author : Olesya Klets; Elena Gutierrez-Farewik; Sven Kleiven; KTH; []
    Keywords : cerebral palsy; moment arm; muscle length; hemiplegic; MRI; subject-specific; musculoskeletal modeling; lower extremities; muscle volume; Mechanical engineering; Maskinteknik;

    Abstract : The computational musculoskeletal models that are used to study muscle moment-generating capacities of persons with movement disorders and planning treatment options must be accurate, and take into account the inter-individual variability of musculoskeletal geometry. In Paper I the methods of creating the subject-specific musculoskeletal model of the lower extremities from magnetic resonance images (MRIs) were developed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Observation Methods and Imaging Techniques. Assessments of physical exposure in repetitive work with focus on neck and upper extremities

    Author : Birgit Juul-Kristensen; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; imaging techniques; force; electromyography; video recording; electrogoniometer; inclinometer; movement; posture; physical exposure; industrial work; repetitive; upper extremity; neck; observation method; musculoskeletal; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin; industrial medicine; Occupational health; epidemiology; ultrasound; magnetic resonance;

    Abstract : Observation methods and imaging techniques - assessments of physical exposure in repetitive work with focus on neck and upper extremities The aim of this thesis was to develop, establish and validate observation methods for exposure assessments in epidemiological studies of repetitive work. A second aim was to increase the quality of input data for biomechanical shoulder models, by reliability and validity studies of Magnetic Reso-nance Imaging (MRI) and Ultrasound Scanning (US). 3. 3. Planning of Environments for People with Physical Disabilities Using Computer Aided Design

    Author : Joakim Eriksson; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; manikin; Virtual Reality; CAD; computer aided design; 3D graphics; design tool; participatory planning; adaptation; Rehabilitation; disability; anthropometry; Technological sciences; magnetic resonance imaging; MRI; cervical spine kinematics; Teknik; biomechanics;

    Abstract : In the area of environment adaptations for people with physical disabilities, it is of vital importance that the design is optimized considering the human-environment interactions. All involved persons in such a planning process must be given sufficient support in understanding the information, so that everyone can participate actively. READ MORE

  4. 4. Multiscale Modelling of Proximal Femur Growth : Importance of Geometry and Influence of Load

    Author : Priti Yadav; Elena Gutierrez Farewik; Marco Viceconti; KTH; []

    Abstract : Longitudinal growth of long bone occurs at growth plates by a process called endochondral ossification. Endochondral ossification is affected by both biological and mechanical factors. READ MORE

  5. 5. Musculoskeletal ultrasound : for diagnostics and treatment guidance in the orthopaedic outpatient care

    Author : Kerstin Sunding; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Accuracy;

    Abstract : Ultrasound (US) has shown to be of great value in diagnostics and treatment of injuries and chronic pain disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Today, it is considered to be a suitable method when investigating superficially located tendons. Another exciting field of application is the use of US for guidance of different invasive treatments.
