  1. 1. Cardiac complications in celiac disease

    Author : Louise Emilsson; Jonas Ludvigsson; Roland Carlsson; Daniel Leffler; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; autoimmune; celiac disease; cohort; dilated cardiomyopathy; inflammation; myocardial infarction; registry; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Celiac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated enteropathy induced by dietary gluten that affects about 1% of western populations. CD has been associated to an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality in some studies; however associations to cardiovascular diseases have not been broadly researched. READ MORE

  2. 2. Diabetes complications, risk factors, and glycaemic indices in persons with type 1 diabetes

    Author : Sara Hallström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes; Hyperglycaemia; Diabetes complications; Renal insufficiency; Amputation; Atrial fibrillation; Mortality; Myocardial infarction; Heart failure; Stroke; Continuous glucose monitoring;

    Abstract : Background: Persons with type 1 diabetes are at higher risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. An important risk factor for diabetes complications is hyperglycaemia. Hyperglycaemia has traditionally been measured using HbA1c, but glycaemic targets are also provided for continuous glucose monitoring. READ MORE

  3. 3. Improving outcome in acute myocardial infarction

    Author : Ulf Stenestrand; Ulf de Faire; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Background: Despite common guidelines there are vanatlons in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) between hospitals in Sweden. Uncertainties remain regarding the efficacy of early statin therapy and early revascularisation in AMI patients. In the elderly patients also the role of fibrinolytic therapy has been questioned. 4. 4. Early Risk Stratification, Treatment and Outcome in ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction

    Author : Erik Björklund; Bertil Lindahl; Lars Wallentin; Ulf Näslund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Acute myocardial infarction; Thrombolysis; Troponin; Electrocardiography; Natriuretic peptide; Prognosis; Prehospital thrombolysis; Treatment delay; Mortality; Registry; Clinical trial; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : We evaluated, in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with thrombolytics, admission Troponin T (tnT), ST-segment resolution and admission N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) for early risk stratification as well as time delays and outcome in real life patients according to prehospital or in-hospital thrombolytic treatment. Also, baseline characteristics, treatments and outcome in patients enrolled in the ASSENT-2 trial in Sweden and in patients not enrolled were evaluated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Diabetes and hypertension - entangled chronic conditions in primary care. Time trends and determinants for mortality and cardiovascular complications

    Author : Tobias Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes mellitus; hypertension; C-peptide; mortality; cause of death; myocardial infarction; stroke; cohort studies; primary health care; socioeconomic factors; emigrants and immigrants;

    Abstract : Diabetes and hypertension are chronic, often coexisting conditions with increased risk of premature death and cardiovascular complications. This thesis aimed to study different epidemiological aspects regarding risk of mortality and cardiovascular complications among individuals with diabetes, hypertension, and hypertension with concomitant diabetes in primary care.
