  1. 1. Microstructural changes in high strength steels exposed to large deformation and high strain rates

    Author : Kristina Ryttberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; deformation mechanisms; high-velocity forming; high-velocity parting-off; adiabatic shear band; cold ring rolling; TEM; steel;

    Abstract : Increasing steel prices and environmental aspects have put forward the demand to reduce material consumption and energy usage in manufacturing industry and near-net-shape manufacturing techniques have thus become increasingly important. High-velocity parting-off,high-velocity forming and cold ring rolling are three such manufacturing methods that exhibit great potentials in terms of material waste reduction. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fracture behaviour and related microstructures of tool steels parted-off at high rates of strain

    Author : Kristina Ryttberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-velocity parting-off; adiabatic cutting; high strain-rate deformation; TEM; steel; adiabatic shear band;

    Abstract : Increasing steel prices and environmental aspects have put forward the demand to reduce material consumption in manufacturing industry and near-net-shape manufacturing techniques have thus become increasingly important. High-velocity parting-off, or adiabatic cutting, has shown to result in very low material waste as well as narrow dimensional tolerances of parted-off samples. READ MORE

  3. 3. On the Role of Interfaces in Small Scale Plasticity

    Author : Carl F. O. Dahlberg; Jonas Faleskog; Lars Pilgaard-Mikkelsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The strong evidence for a size dependence of plastic deformation in polycrystalline metalsis the basis for the research presented in this thesis. The most important parameter for this, and arguably also the most well known, is the grain size. As the size of the grains in a microstructure is decreased the yield stress increases. READ MORE

  4. 4. Thin film growth and characterization of Ti-Si-C MAX-phases

    Author : Jens Emmerlich; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the growth of Ti-Si-C MAX-phases on A12O3(0001) and MgO(111) substrates with the emphasis on epitaxial Ti3SiC2 thin films by means of DC magnetron sputtering. Ti3SiC2, Ti4SiC3 as well as the two intergrown structures Ti5Si2C3 and Ti7Si2C5 were grown using sputtering from three individual elemental targets of Ti, Si, and C, respectively. READ MORE

  5. 5. Near-surface residual stresses and microstructural changes after turning of a nickel-based superalloy

    Author : Christian Schlauer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Nickel-based superalloys are precipitation hardened alloys with complex compositions. They are used in aircraft engines and land-based gas turbines in load-bearing structural components that are exposed to high temperatures. Failure mechanisms in this environment are high and low cycle fatigue, creep, and corrosion. READ MORE
