  1. 21. Characterization of nucleic acid delivery with fatty acid modified cell-penetrating peptide nanoparticle formulations

    Author : Tõnis Lehto; Ülo Langel; Patrick Midoux; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transfection; gene delivery; oligonucleotide; complexes; non-viral; in vivo; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : Recent advances with techniques used for manipulating gene expression have brought us to an era where various gene therapeutic approaches are becoming common therapeutic tools for many previously incurable diseases. The main factor impeding the wider translation of gene therapy is that the active pharmaceutical ingredients used for interfering with gene expression are based on nucleic acids and synthetic oligonucleotides and such molecules do not readily reach their intracellular targets due to their physicochemical properties and therefore they require delivery vectors to cross the cell membrane. 2. 22. Characterization of artificial and biological lipid vesicles using TIRF and SPR

    Author : Thomas Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; membrane permeability; chromaffin vesicle; fluorescence; total internal reflection TIRF microscopy; surface plasmon resonance SPR ; vesicle; osmotic shock; cell membrane; liposome; nanoparticle tracking analysis NTA ; large dense core vesicles LDCVs ;

    Abstract : Synthetic lipid vesicles serve as important mimics of cells and the natural membranes that they are enclosed by. As such they are frequently used as simplified models of the highly complex cell membrane to aid in-depth physicochemical and biological characterization of this essential biological structure. 3. 23. Aerosol Generated Core-shell Nanoparticles : Synthesis and Characterization

    Author : Markus Snellman; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aerosol technology; core-shell particles; nanoparticles; Janus particles;

    Abstract : Aerosol technology is a promising platform to synthesize and study core-shellnanoparticles - a multi-elemental nanoparticle system where the core of one material is covered by a shell of another material. In this thesis, two distinctly separate strategies have been explored to synthesize core-shell nanoparticles by aerosol methods: physical vapor deposition (PVD) by evaporation, and surface segregation via thermal treatment. 4. 24. Characterization of biological nanoparticles using evanescent field sensing

    Author : Mattias Sjöberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; label-free; protein corona; mass quantification.; liposomes; single-particle; SPR; Waveguide scattering microscopy;

    Abstract : In light of the increasingly realized importance of nanoparticle-based biological processes, in biology as well as in technological applications, there is a need of analysis methods capable of accurately quantifying different characteristics and processes involving these elusive entities. The aim of this thesis is the development and utilization of surface-based bioanalytical sensing methods for quantitative characterization of biological nanoparticles, most of which being based on surface-confined evanescent-field illumination. 5. 25. Angle dependent light scattering of functional nanoparticle composites

    Author : JunXin Wang; Gunnar Niklasson; Anand Srinivason; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; light scattering; nano particle; absorption; radiative transfer; Solid State Physics; Fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : Varies functional nanoparticles play crucial roles in energy- and optical- related applications. The incorporation of functional nanoparticles into non-absorbing polymers to form optical absorption and scattering thin films have attracted considerable interest due to a successful selection of particles and matrices, synergistic effects of separation and fixation of particles, and controllable layer thicknesses and structures.
