16. Approaching the depairing critical current in superconducting YBa2Cu3O7−x nanowires
Abstract : The microscopic origin of High critical Temperature Superconductivity isstill an open issue in condensed matter physics. In these complex oxideselectrons self-organize in ways qualitatively different from those of conventionalmetals and insulators. READ MORE

17. Epitaxial Growth and Design of Nanowires and Complex Nanostructures
Abstract : This thesis describes the epitaxial growth of III-V semiconductor nanowires using Au seed particles, and the design of more complex three-dimensional branched structures from these wires. Growth was performed by metallorganic vapour phase epitaxy, in which precursor molecules for the semiconductor material components are introduced in a low-pressure vapour. READ MORE

18. Growth, Physics, and Device Applications of InAs-based Nanowires
Abstract : This thesis is based on three different projects: 1) the epitaxial growth of nanowires using chemical beam epitaxy, 2) the study of electron transport through quantum dots and multiple quantum dots in nanowires at low temperature, and 3) the development of wrap gated nanowire field effect transistors. In the first part, a method of studying the diffusion of the source material on the substrate surface was developed. READ MORE

19. Transmission Electron Microscopy of III-V Nanowires and Nanotrees
Abstract : In this work, the morphology and crystal structure of epitaxial semiconductor nanowire structures grown by metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE) are studied by electron microscopy methods. In particular, the three-dimensional structure of nanowires and nanotrees has been characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and multi-slice (MS) simulations. 20. Conjugated Polymers, Amyloid Detection and Assembly of Biomolecular Nanowires
Abstract : The research field of conjugated polymers has grown due to the optical and electronic properties of the material, useful in applications such as solar cells and printed electronics, but also in biosensors and for interactions with biomolecules. In this thesis conjugated polymers have been used in two related topics; to detect conformational changes in proteins and to assemble the polymers with biomolecules into nanowires. READ MORE
