  1. 1. The human Achilles tendon : innervation and intratendinous production of nerve signal substances - of importance in understanding the processes of Achilles tendinosis

    Author : Dennis Bjur; Sture Forsgren; Patrik Danielson; Håkan Alfredson; Tomas Movin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Achilles tendon; tendinosis; tendinopathy; nerve signal substances; hälsena; Achillessena; tendinos; tendinopati; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : Tendinopathies are painful tendon conditions of presumably multifactorial genesis. In tendinosis, as in Achilles tendinosis, there is apart from pain also morphological changes which are described as degenerative with no signs of inflammation. The exact mechanisms behind these conditions are still, to a large extent, unknown. READ MORE

  2. 2. Innervation patterns and locally produced signal substances in the human patellar tendon : of importance when understanding the processes of tendinosis

    Author : Patrik Danielson; Sture Forsgren; Håkan Alfredson; Graham Riley; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; patellar tendon; innervation; tendinosis; tendinopathy; acetylcholine; catecholamines; muscarinic receptors; adrenergic receptors; Anatomy; Anatomi;

    Abstract : Tendinosis is a condition of chronic pain that afflicts several human tendons, not least the patellar tendon, in which case it is often clinically referred to as ‘jumper’s knee’. The exact mechanisms behind tendinosis are yet not fully understood. READ MORE

  3. 3. On inferior alveolar nerve function after sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible

    Author : Anders Westermark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : mandibular nerve; neurosensory disturbance; sagittal split osteotomy;

    Abstract : Osteotomies of the mandible are designed to adjust improper jaw positions. While vertical ramus osteotomy can be used for mandibular setback but not for mandibular advancement, sagittal split osteotomy can be used to move the lower jaw in both directions and this surgical technique also permits mobility of the lower jaw immediately after surgery. 4. 4. Organic bioelectronic devices to control cell signalling

    Author : Karin Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The nervous system consists of a network of specialized cells that coordinate the actions of the body by transmitting information to and from the brain. The communication between the nerve cells is dependent on the interplay of both electrical and chemical signals. READ MORE
