  1. 1. Neurotrophic factors and neuronal plasticity

    Author : Sten Linnarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The neurotrophic factors were originally discovered because of their ability to rescue neurons during a period of naturally occurring programmed cell death. This gave rise to the neurotrophic factor hypothesis which states that specific target-derived factors protect and support subpopulations of innervating neurons, thereby regulating the pattern and quantity of innervation properly for each target tissue. 3. 3. Pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide : Expression and neurotrophic activity in the rat brain

    Author : Ylva Skoglösa; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Neurotrophic factors play an important role in regulating naturally occurring cell death during neurogenesis. In addition to classical neurotrophic factors, some neurotransmitters and neuropeptides have been shown to exhibit neurotrophic activities. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neurotrophic and immune regulatory factors in neuroinflammation

    Author : Alexander W Gielen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Neurotrophins; EAE; MS; TIM; Neuroprotection;

    Abstract : Inflammatory reactions in the nervous system act as a double-edged sword. On the one hand, neuroinflammation can have very devastating effects on the nervous system, leading to neurological dysfunction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Intrinsic and extrinsic factors controlling the differentiation of human midbrain progenitor cells

    Author : Nicolaj Christophersen; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []

    Abstract : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor deficits. Levodopa treatment provides marked symptomatic relief. However, within 5-10 years after the start of Levodopa treatment, most PD patients display a gradual loss of drug efficacy. READ MORE
