1. Sympathetic function in cardiac disorders.Upon cardio-renal sympathetic activity and effects of nitroglycerin in human heart failure
Abstract : This study explores pathophysiological mechanisms and prognostic implications of sympathetic activation in patients with atherosclerotic renovascular hypertension (RVH) and with chronic heart failure (CHF). Hitherto, it is unknown whether cardiac sympathetic activation is present in patients with RVH, the presence of which could relate to the increased cardiovascular mortality observed in this disorder. 2. Nitric oxide generation from nitroglycerin and other no-donors measured in the lung and studies on nitrate tolerance in the cardiovascular system
Abstract : Nitroglycerin (GTN) and compounds referred to as nitrovasodilators or NOdonors are frequently used in the treatment of ischemic heart disease. The common mode of action for these drugs is liberation of nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide evokes relaxation of smooth muscle through activation of guanylate cyclase with subsequent formation of eGMP. READ MORE

3. Arterial pulse wave analysis. With special reference to vasoactive and anaesthetic drugs and to heart lung interactions
Abstract : In the young systolic arterial pressures (SAP) are higher in the radial artery than in the proximal aorta. Due to increased large artery stiffness and early pulse wave reflection aortic SAP increases more with age than peripheral SAP. READ MORE

4. Nitric oxide donors in labor management
Abstract : ABSTRACT Nitric oxide donors in labor management Maria Bullarbo Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Institute of Clinical Sciences Background: Nitric oxide (NO), a free radical with ultra-short half-life synthesized from L- arginine by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS), is in the human involved in many physiological and pathophysiological processes, including different reproductive processes. During pregnancy NO is produced endogenously in the human uterine cervix and placenta. READ MORE

5. Nitric oxide synthase in female reproductive and urinary organs: Hormonal regulation and functional significance
Abstract : Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was studied in cytosolic and particulate fractions in reproductive organs from rabbit (uterus and vagina) and rat (uterus, vagina and cervix). NOS was found predominantly in cytosolic fractions in all tissues and the activity of NOS in both fractions was highly Ca2+ dependent. READ MORE
